A pair of Japanese Konoike silver vases, Meiji era, of fluted trumpet form on domed bases embossed with flowering prunus branches, 13cm high, together with a Japanese silver novelty cruet modelled as stylised cats, each embossed and chased with peony flowers, possibly signed Ki Sei, 5cm high, and a pair of small embossed cruets, South American, of pyramidal form and decorated with stylised masks, 3cm high. (6)Vases: one repaired/soldered to stem joint, the other re-souldered above stem knop. Minor signs of age to both.Cat cruets: one missing bow above tail. One misshapen to the 'paws'. Three 19th century Bohemian glasses comprising an octagonal glass with cream enamel scroll, foliate and acanthus leaf gilt-heightened overlay, to octagonal base, height 12cm, a wine glass with vignettes of various colour overlay, amber, red and green with pastoral and architectural engraving, with all-over etched floral and leaf trellis design, to circular base with ribbed rim, height 12cm, and a trumpet glass with clear and amber overlay circular vignettes with architectural scenes, one initialled 'FM', with all-over etched tulip and line design, and various etched name places, to circular base, height 12cm, also a late 18th/early 19th century trumpet glass with etched all-over floral design with line and dot border to the top, to circular base, height 12cm (4). CONDITION REPORT All have age related wear in the form of surface scratches, no obvious restoration, chips or cracks, apart from the glass with initials 'FM' which has a chip to the rim and various small frits to the rim

A BIÊN HÒA 边和 STONEWARE ‘CRANE AND PINE’ VASE OF BALUSTER SHAP BY HUU DUC VIETNAM, BIÊN HÒA 边和 SCHOOL OF APPLIED ARTS, SECOND HALF OF 20TH CENTURY This vase rests on a spread foot, has a globular egg-shaped body and a waisted shoulder surmounted by a phoenix tail (or trumpet) next. Its shoulder is applied with two molded mythical beast handles with loose ring imitations. It is adorned in white, brown and green with a crane, a pine tree and clouds against a blue ground. The base bears an impressed mark: 'Huu Duc Bien Hoa'. H: 32 cm Provenance: A private collection of Vietnamese Art, French Riviera, France. Note: The crane (he 鹤) is believed to live to a very old age and therefore is a symbol of longevity. The pine tree (song 松) is a very common symbol for longevity because it is an evergreen and can endure severe winters. This vase is therefore a highly auspicious one and is conveying a wish for a long-lasting life.

It rests on a short foot, has a globular body and a trumpet neck. It is finely painted in bright colors with bamboo and plum flowers against a night blue ground enhanced with a gilt bee nest pattern. H: 10 cm Notes: According to Vietnam Annal Records, it is during the 8th year of the reign of Emperor Minh Mạng(1820-1839), i.e. 1827, that the technique of enamel on metal, originating from Canton / Guangzhou, China, was introduced to Vietnam. At that time, a workshop was established under the responsibility of the official court painter Vũ Văn Mai. AN ENGLISH SILVER-HILTED HUNTING SWORD, LATE 17TH CENTURY, THE HILT MARKED FOR THOMAS VICARIDGEwith slightly curved blade double-edged towards the point and formed with two fullers, silver hilt cast and chased in low relief, comprising flat circular quillon pierced with a mask issuant with scrolls, knuckle-guard interrupted by a foliate moulding and struck with the maker~s mark, ~TV~ crowned (rubbed), ferrule with cusped upper border, cap pommel with lower border en suite with the ferrule, the button formed as a finely chiselled moor~s head playing a trumpet, the latter engaging the top of the knuckle-guard, and natural staghorn grip (one small chip)51.0 cm; 20 1/8 in bladeLiterature; Howard L. Blackmore, The Blackamoor Swords, in Royal Armouries Yearbook 1998, pp. 73-5, illustrated.Provenance; Anthony North (1942-2012), sold in this room 30th June 2010, lot 123.; ; Thomas Vicaridge (recorded 1680-1715) was a leading silver hilt maker and sword cutler. He became a liveryman of the Cutler~s company in 1696 and acted as steward for the Lord Mayor~s Day celebration held at the Cutlers~ Hall. He married Ann Osborn in 1703 and the following year their son, Thomas, was born. The entry for his christening records Thomas (1) as a ~silver hilt maker~. Sadly his son died the following year.
