ST(tm)HR A HANAU, CIRCA 1780-91 with swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves, signed stepped bevelled lock, set trigger, figured walnut full stock with carved raised mouldings, the butt with raised cheek-piece and sliding patchbox-cover, regulation brass mounts including trumpet-shaped ramrod-pipes, brass fore-end cap, a pair of steel sling swivels, and original brass-tipped iron ramrod 71.3cm; 28Bin barrelJ"gerb chsen of this pattern were introduced in 1757 for issue to the Prussian Korps-Feldj"ger of Brandenburg-Anspach-Bayreuth. The pattern remained in manufacture until 1791 (including issue to the Hessian troops involved in the American Revolutionary War), being superceded in 1796 by a similar carbine manufactured at the Potsdam arsenal. See H.M ller 1991, pp.100-103.

A Russian cut crystal, gasolier converted to chandelier, c. 1890/1900. Central silvered metal column, the corona fitted with cut glass lotus leaf mounts, hung with a cascade of strings of facet cut beads in inverted trumpet form. With silvered metal circlet mounted with cut glass spikes, with a cascade of facet cut glass pendant drops below, terminating in a cut glass ball finial. 130cm long. Provenance: Formerly hanging in the main reception room of WARTSKI - Grafton street, W1 premises & before that In the Regent Street premises. This chandelier was exported from Russia by Emanuel Snowman of Wartski in 1927.
