A Victorian blue glass epergne with clear glass scrolling branches supporting trumpet shaped vases with frilled rims on a shaped circular crimped rim base, and a gilt metal nine branch epergne with violet tinted glass flutes on a scrolling base CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear and scuffs, some chips and losses, very large area of damage to the base, a large damaged area is still present but there are also losses in this area, chips, cracks, etc.
[WILHELM II]: (1859-1941) German Emperor and King of Prussia 1888-1918. A fine oversized, drawn trumpet, crystal glass wine goblet with a hexagonal, notch faceted stem and plain conical foot. The glass stands 14 inches tall and the bowl bears a gilt edge and the white, red, black and gold enamel naval standard of the Kaiser. The goblet is believed to have originated from the Imperial yacht, Hohenzollern, and dates from the early 20th century. VG
Greek Macedonia - Demetrios I - Poseidon Tetradrachm298–295 BC. Obv: Nike alighting left on prow of galley, blowing trumpet she holds in her right hand, holding stylus in her left. Rev: BASILEWS DHMHTRIOY legend to right and beneath Poseidon, naked but for chlamys draped over his left arm, advancing left, brandishing trident, with tripod altar to left, XR monogram in left field, HR in lower centre. 17.13 grams. A pair of Elkington and Co silver plated vases of trumpet form, early 20th century, 17.5cm high, a WMF silver plated beaker of tapering circular form, 11cm high and an Art Nouveau silver plated cigarette box of rectangular form, the embossed lid organically decorated with stylised foliage, 12.5cm long (4) .
A large and important pair of c.1876 Elkington & Co gilt metal and cloisonné trumpet vases, each with stepped rim and lift out liner above tapering main bodies, one decorated with two flamingos, two dragonflies, and an exotic bird amongst foliage, bulrushes and reeds, the second decorated with a hawk, four further birds and various flowering branches with coastal landscape beyond, each base with foliate pierced band above applied floral decorated and pierced Greek key scrolling feet, both signed with wirework within the design "Elkington & Co", one stamped "Elkington" to the metal mount, height 71cm, diameter of top 39.5cm. A near identical single vase is illustrated in a lithograph of Elkington's display at the Philadelphia Centenary Exhibition 1876, published by George Virtue for the Art Journal 1876. CONDITION REPORT: Generally in good condition. Pitting to the enamel on both. On each vase, there is one area of approx one square inch of the enamel that has been chipped or knocked at some stage. On both vases this does not detract and is not particularly easy to spot. Slight tarnishing to metal work. A wonderful pair, no significant damage.
