Lot 179

A brass cavalry trumpet, by Henry Potter, Charing Cross, London, stamped with WD and broad arrow, “C&M, 1879, 3/81, 1 RD”, length 15”. This item belonged to Trumpeter Wilson, 1st (Royal) Dragoons, who was with the Heavy Camel Regiment in the Gordon Relief Expedition. He was killed on 19th January 1885 at Abu Kru, a brief battle which took place two days after the famous encounter at Abu Klea. In somewhat battered condition commensurate with circumstances.
