A composite Meissen Monkey Band Orchestra, late 19th/ early 20th century, after the models by J.J.Kaendler and P.Reinicke, each on a scrollwork base edged in gilding, comprising: the conductor with a music stand, a hurdy-gurdy player, four singers, a cellist, a bagpipe player, a trumpet and a horn player, a harpist, a guitarist, a violinist, a drummer, a triangle player, an organ player and two flautists, crossed swords in underglaze-blue, various impressed and incised numbers, some with painters numerals, some with chips, (19), According to U.Pietsch et.al, Fruhes Meissener Porzellan, pp.275-280, it is not certain how many Monkey Band figures were made. It is recorded Madame de Pompadour purchased 19 figures in 1753. The models were renewed by Kaendler and Reinicke in 1765-1766, Another composite monkey band was sold at Sotheby's New Bond Street on 2 December 2004.
