Warren MacKenzie (American, 1924-2018). Tall studio pottery ceramic trumpet vase. Glazed stoneware. Stamped along the footrim.Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.Height: 11 1/4 in x diameter 5 in.Condition: The vase is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or losses. No chips to the rim. Crazing throughout. There are original firing and glazing flaws. Very light wear to the underside, consistent with age and use. No sign of restoration.

No visible sign of restoration under UV light. The color is bold and bright. Wear throughout. Along the edges, there are several areas of paint loss, particularly to the top part, there is an area of crack; please see the listing image. Along the back of the sculpture, there are original paint residues throughout. All parts are firmly attached to it.
