Signed in bold blue ink to a light area of the image and dated 1977 in his hand. An ink annotation in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the signature was obtained in person during the North Sea Jazz Festival at Congresgebouw in The Hague on 15th July 1977. EX

A Facon de Venise clear and blue glass vase Venice, possibly 17th / 18th century, with white spiralled decoration and pale blue rim, the trumpet shaped bowl over a neck with five graduated knops and blue and clear scrolled handles, to a bun form body on a short, flared foot with pontil mark, 8 3/4in. (22.25cm.) high. *One handle has a small piece of the outer clear glass missing. Otherwise good with no other damage noted.

A Victorian walnut sewing table of trumpet form, the thumb moulded octagonal lid opening to eight shallow compartments around one deep lidded central compartment of dark green silk, raised on three splayed legs with carved knees terminating in pad feet, 17½ x 17½in. Kölner Munzkabinett 113, 1060; cf. BSJ 8, 458). Extremely fine and very rare £240-£300 --- John Seymour Lucas, RA (1849-1923), b. Mueller for O. Oertel, winged figure of Fame seated right on pedestal, blowing trumpet and with arm round the shoulder of a semi-naked artisan standing right, rev. legend in nine lines encircled by wreath, 70mm, 136.54g (DGMK 8, 946; BDM IV, 191; cf. Münz Zentrum Rheinland 188, 5293; cf. Noonans 264, 930). About extremely fine, patinated £30-£40 --- Provenance: bt Münz Zentrum Rheinland, December 1999 Edition of 218 in all metals. The exhibition was opened by Crown Prince Wilhelm on 1 May 1902 and closed on 20 October. It attracted 2,500 exhibitors and was patronised by some 5 million visitors.
