A Chinese Porcelain Baluster Vase, bears Jiajing reign mark, of slender baluster form with trumpet neck, painted in underglaze blue with warriors in a mountainous landscape, bears six character reign mark, 44.5cm high Provenance: Bequeathed by the vendor`s grandmother, Lady Ethel Margaret Stronge, to the vendor`s mother Mrs Rose Ethel Richardson (nee Stronge) of Tynan Abbey, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, and then subsequently to her son, the present vendor. Lady Ethel Margaret married Sir Frances Stronge who joined the diplomatic service in London in 1879 (paper proof in the National Archive FO17 997). Records show him as serving in the diplomatic service in Peking in the same year. He served in the Supreme Court in Shanghai in 1885. From 1897-1907 he served in Central America. A letter with the family, dated 29 March 1925 refers to these two vases purchased some 40 years earlier at the latest. Any other details of provenance for these two important pieces are available upon request. 5mm flat chip to upper rim. 11cm long crack to base. Some minor firing flaws throughout. 190213
