A late 19th Century WMF cut glass and EPNS table centrepiece, the central trumpet shaped vase with panels of relief diamonds and fan border above a similarly cut dish, raised on rococo scroll and spiral lobed cast base, marked WMF. A couple of small flake chips to dish, some rubbing to plate, 45cm high.

12th-13th century AD. A substantial silver-gilt D-section hoop with lateral ribs and D-shaped flanges, trumpet bezel; the hoop with running scrolls and tendrils, the bezel with intaglio dragon(?) motif. 11 grams, 26mm overall, 16.99mm internal diameter (approximate size British M 1/2, USA 6 1/2, Europe 13.16, Japan 12) (1"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Very fine condition.
Late 2nd-early 3rd century AD. A suite of silver belt mounts comprising: a volute scrolled buckle loop and plate to the rear with loops; a matching tongue of trefoil form; nine flat-section mounts, each a letter with trumpet-scroll finials, lugs to the reverse; the letters F, Ex3, L, I V, R with X attached to the end-plate with hinge-loops to the forward edge, forming the apotropaic text 'VTERE FELIX' (use with luck) (T absent"). 104 grams total, 42-50mm (1 3/4 - 2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. See Redži?, S. Vtere Felix Belt Sets on the Territory of Viminacium in Starina, LVIII, Belgrade, 2008. The belt-mount sets with VTERE FELIX text are associated particularly with Roman troops in the Danubian region. The text was held to have an amuletic quality, warding off harm from the wearer of the belt. [10] Fine condition, some accretion.
1st-2nd century AD. A substantial bronze discoid mount with a triskele of openwork La Tène inspired trumpet motifs within a stepped frame; pierced in three places for attachment; mounted on a custom-made stand. 295 grams, 16.5cm including stand (6 1/2"). Property of an East London collector; acquired in the 1970s. Cf. Appels, A. & Laycock, S. Roman Buckles and Military Fittings, Witham, 2007, item AA9.6. Very fine condition, cleaned and conserved.
2nd century AD. A silver plate brooch formed as two pairs of addorsed trumpet motifs with pelta-motifs to the ends, one with twist to form a pin, the other with fixture for a catchplate. 9.12 grams, 40mm (1 1/2"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1980s and 1990s. Fine condition.
9th-8th century BC. A globular body with basal ring, slender neck with trumpet-shaped mouth, collar and single loop handle; bands of red and black concentric circles to the broad sides and neck, lattice to the body. 613 grams, 24cm (9 1/2"). Ex 'Hands of the Potter' Exhibition, London, 1995. Fine condition.
1st century BC-1st century AD. A large bronze openwork plaque with D-section rim and mesh of trumpet and comma-leaf motifs in a regular layout; pierced in three places for attachment. 274 grams, 11cm (4 1/4"). Property of a German collector; acquired in the 1980s and 1990s. Very fine condition.
16th-17th century AD. A silver hawking whistle in the shape of a truncated trumpet; mouthpiece is a raised band attached to a tapering body with D-shaped sound-hole; thick band with incised lines attaches the body to a flared rim with scrolled vine decoration, hole to slightly domed base; suspension ring to underside of body. 4.42 grams, 30.72mm (1 1/2"). Property of a Hampshire, UK collector; acquired London, 2006.. Fine condition.
