λ A CHINESE RHINOCEROS HORN 'LOTUS' LIBATION CUP 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY Formed as a trumpet-shaped lotus leaf, the handle shaped as stems and leaves, with seed pods and a flower to the foot, 14cm, 201g. The lotus is a popular motif on rhinoceros horn carvings, being regarded as a symbol of scholars' virtue and purity, as the beautiful flower grows from the mud, clean and unstained.
