A 20th century beech campaign rifle stand, the C scroll top support with five pierced apertures between tapering supports, the base with two frieze drawers, on turned feet, 126cm by 26cm by 128cmDemi-lune example with scrolls with slightly loose joints and discoloured areas to the top. All with typical wear and oxidisation.

I., in a fitted leather covered case (2) The flashpoint of the Indian Mutiny was the introduction of the Enfield rifle. The cartridges for this weapon were believed to be greased with a mixture of beef and pork fat, which was felt would defile both Hindu and Muslim soldiers. On 1st May, the 7th Oudh Irregular Infantry refused to bite the cartridge, and on 3rd May were disarmed by other regiments. In 1861 after the mutiny the title of 13th BNI was given to the Shekhawati Battalion which became 13th (Shekhawati) Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry. Col. Watson was appointed commander of the 13th Regiment on 13th September 1878.
