MILITARY, Etc: 1- Pettit, P: Tunisia Sicily 1942/3. "I kept diaries while abroad simply for my wife. The following is a type script with a few additions from surviving letters home". The "additions" include numerous copies of maps, press cuttings, correspondence and material relevant to the campaign; all bound in faux leather covers. This is probably a unique copy or one of only a few. This was possibly later published in 2014, under the title: "Battles of a Gunner Officer: Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, and the Long Road to Germany"; small folio; 2- Napier, W F P: History of the War in the Peninsula and in the South of France from the Year 1807 to the Year 1814. 6 Vols. dating: 1864 provenance: USA, Short, round, rifled, 13.5 mm cal. barrel, with adjustable rear sight adn fore-sight; frame with rear magazine, marked 'BURNSIDE'S PATENT / MODEL OF 1864' and with serial number '11639'; backward spring lock marked 'BURNSIDE RIFLE Co. PROVIDNENCE R. I.'. Wooden butt and fore-end. Iron mounts. length 100.5 cm.
dating: 18th Century provenance: Ottoman Empire, Wide, curved, single-and false-edged blade with groove on the back, areas with rust damages. First two quarters on both sides with long cartouches with gold-inlaid inscriptions in Arabic, back on the groove's length with raiser, above gilded and with rests of inscriptions. Silver hilt with cross-quillon, engraved and nielloed with geometrical motifs. Grip with horn grip scales and angled pommel. Wooden scabbard, completely covered with silver foil, engraved and nielloed, on the right side above Ulysses with a bow and arrow in his hand, with a bandeau featuring a short inscription in Greek, an arm trophy at his feet; central part with a lion with a collar, trophy and deer; lower part decorated with a double eagle and floral motifs; opposite side with a star and floral motifs in the upper segment, a hunter in the forest in the center, pointing with a long flintlock rifle the two deer, a marine monster and bird below, divided by floral motifs. Two suspension rings. length 79 cm.
dating: circa 1800 provenance: Marseille, Iron, round, smooth-bore barrel, first part richly chiselled with trophies on a gilded ground, in bass-and high-relief, round after the rings, engraved and gilded with floral motifs and beams, silver fore-sight on a heart-shaped base, circularly strongly bell-mouthed nozzle; lock decorated en suite and signed 'VIGNIAT'; wooden, full stock, with filigree inlays in silver thread (parts missing). Replaced iron trigger-guard coming from a Spanish rifle. Silver butt-plate. Restored counter-plate and escutcheon on the back. Original ramrod with cartridge extractor. Needs and adequate restore. length 91 cm.
A Belgian .310" Francotte's Patent Martini action Rook Rifle, number 96235, 42" overall, octagonal barrel 26½" with two folding leaf rearsights and Liege proofs; action stamped "Francotte's Patent" in circle and with cocking indicator at the side of the breech block; dark walnut stock having chequered fore end, nicely figured butt with chequered wrist, 108cm long.

British Army tunic, cap and Sam Browne with revolver holster formerly belonging to Captain Douglas Foxley Foxwell (b.1890-d.1980), includes photocopy details of Military Cross (General List) and 'The London Gazette' dated January 1, 1918 and July 4, 1919.fitted on display model included in the lot. Captain Douglas Foxley Foxwell served in the Rifle Brigade during WWI and went to France in August 1915. Following WWI he served in the Territorial Army, Royal Sussex Regiment.
