Metalwork covered in a toned lacquer. Front barrel band lacks retaining pin. Stock has two rings screwed into the reverse side to hang rifle on wall. Hole drilled in front of stock. Ramrod missing. Generally worn overall with a further stock hole.

Formerly the property of a Boer Commando (name removed from stock) Left side of action marked 'OVS 2603' showing the rifle was supplied to the Orange Free State Boers. These were known as the £4 rifle, all Boers were required by law to arm themselves. Dated 1896.
