Birmingham, Freeth & Jennings, B'ham gun furniture manufacturer, Colt, etc; also several letters and envelopes from St James Palace and Buckingham Palace relating to Beesley's Royal Warrant, c 1920s-1930s. A .577" Enfield pattern 1853 percussion rifle, the breech having ordnance proofs and government sale marks, the lock marked with crown over "VR" and "1856 Tower", walnut fullstock with brass mounts and three barrel bands secured by screws, the butt bearing worn "Tower London 1860" War Office stamp and Government sale mark, the butt plate tang engraved "V/Hs.1/63". GWO & C (lock and barrel moderately pitted overall), with a later leather sling. £320-400
A .577/450" Martini Henry Mk I rifle upgraded to Mk II, 49½" overall, barrel 33½" marked near the rearsight "NS NEP" (National Service, Nepal), the framed marked "---/L.S.A. Co/1875/II" (the crown and "VR" not visible), fullstocked with steel mounts including 2 barrel bands, sling swivels, and steel cleaning rod, the front band with bayonet lug, the butt retaining traces of ordnance markings beneath later Nepalese characters. GWO & generally GC (some wear overall); with a triangular socket bayonet, in its brass mounted leather scabbard, the locket bearing Nepalese markings. GC This weapon is one of 52,000 small arms retrieved from the Royal Palace of Lagan Silekhana, Kathmandu, Nepal in 2003. With a very detailed print out of the history of the rifle. Contained in a fur lined gun slip, together with an inert cartridge. £400-500
