Manfred Albrecht von Richthofen (`The Red Baron`), a part compression rib from Richthofen`s Fokker triplane, inscribed in pencil `Piece of compression rib from Baron Richthofen`s Fokker triplane, Sgt. Mark F Hides, Rifle Brigade R, G. Walker Chief Mechanic RAF, I Bell Ops Mech`, 13.5cm long Von Richthofen is credited with eighty victories during WW1. He was finally shot down near Vaux-sur-Somme on 21 April 1918. It remains unclear whether Captain Roy Brown was victorious (as official records suggest), or whether a shot from the ground by an Australian infantryman resulted in the fatal injury.
