The quality and workmanship that goes into these weapons is unsurpassed. We offer here a model extremely scarce on this side of the pond, it is not even listed in the blue book, the Sauer Model 80 Grand African. Chambered for the powerful .458 Winchester Magnum and capable of taking down the world's most dangerous game. The smoothness of the action, the quality of the high polished blue finish, and the beautifully checkered pistol grip walnut stock with contrasting forend tip and grip cap are, simply stated, the finest available. This rifle dates to Roy's early days of custom rifles in South Gate, California using the old FN actions that he ordered from Belgium with his name stamped on left side receiver bridge. Flat inner bolt is checkered. Blued floorplate and trigger guard have faded to 75%. Flat counter-bored muzzle. This exact style rifle can be seen on page 118 in the "Lee-Enfield" book by Skennerton. This rifle is very similar to the Lee Metford Mk I; features the long full stock, short one piece forend, separate buttstock with pistol grip, no disc on right side, and sighting wheel on left side of forend. The Mk I was approved in 1889 and the smokeless cartridge .303 cordite Mk I was approved in 1891. The right side band is stamped "BSA Company". Has a trapdoor brass buttplate with brass oiler. Four sling swivels. Forward bridge is stamped "For Cordite Only". Considered the MLE with Enfield rifled barrel, rather than the Metford rifling. This all original rifle is almost never seen and this example remains in extraordinary original condition. Barrel, bands, frame and dust cover retain virtually all of their original blue finish. Original stock is excellent, high gloss walnut with usual dings. Even the trigger guard retains the majority of the original blue. Sighting disc has all of its blue, as does the 500 yard rear sight. Has the base for the Parker Hale rear side on left side. In addition, this rifle comes with the rare boxed Parker sniper long range front glass optical attachment with the glass rear peep eye attachment; lined in purple velvet. This rare original sight is as scarce as the rifle. The production and survival rate of these guns is unknown but were made for a very short time, as the SMLE Model was introduced ion 1901. Winchester, during the 1930's, made a decision to revamp their line-up of lever action rifles and give them a more modern look with some updated modern calibers without completely scrapping all their tooling. So they took the 94 action and designed the modern looking Model 64. Full round barrel has their traditional rear sporting sight, but a hooded ramp front was added. The stocks were the most drastic change when the introduced a wider walnut forend and a more rakish plain pistol grip stock with flutes. This rifle pre-dates the Weatherby stamped FN Mauser action. Roy Weatherby or his shop basically built this rifle from the ground up utilizing early original FN receiver, a high polishg blue apex barrel was added. Frame was finished in a French nickel and engraved with an antique background and a German deeply cut leaf pattern. This some finish and engraving was applied to the floorplate and trigger guard. There are no deluxe inlays other than the gold owner's plaque under the forend that is engraved with "H.G.M.". He selected one of the finest grained walnut available and applied a beautiful deluxe checkering with diamonds and carving along the border, as style of which we cannot even find in the 1953 catalog (the earliest we have available that features styles and patterns of rifles). Of course, it has the distinctive Roy Weatherby profile with the contrasting rosewood forend tip, rosewood pistol grip cap with white diamond, a Pachmayr red waffle pad, sling eyes. This rifle is topped wit Buehler mounts and an old Lyman All American 4x scope. We would place the period of manufacture of this rifle to immediately after the war to the late 40's. As to condition; this rifle has seen little to no use and remains in near new condition inside and out. Extremely tasteful. Not much information on the Weatherby rifles, with the exception of the old catalogs, and as more investors begin to appreciate the rarity and workmanship in these early rifles, they're sure to find an increasing demand in the years to come, as they are as fine a rifle as any Griffin & Howe, Owens, or Hoffman rifle ever made. Serial Number-29331; Manufacturer-Weatherby; Model-Bolt Action; Caliber-.30-06; Barrel Length-24"; FFL Status-Curio & Relic;
