A scarce late 18th century plain copper powder flask of the Percy Tenantry, probably for the Baker rifle, 7", with large fixed brass charger, the body engraved “V/50”, with two hanging rings. A late 18th century 14 bore Brown Bess style flintlock musket, 52½” overall, barrel 37" with B’ham proofs and stamped “RW” above the touch hole (Robert Wheeler of Birmingham ?), the rounded lock stamped with crowned “GR” and “Tower”, the swan neck cock a contemporary replacement, walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts including early style trigger guard, sling swivels, and replacement Enfield rifle steel ramrod. GWO & basically GC (worn overall). Presumably re-proved by Wheeler and retailed as a trade piece. Plate 32 £400-500

Enfield pattern 2 band percussion musket, barrel 30" with standard rifle rearsight, the breech with inspector’s marks, government sale mark, and London proofs for 21 bore, the lock stamped with crowned “VR” and “1856”, walnut fullstock, the butt with storekeeper’s mark overstamped with government sale mark, regulation brass mounts, the butt plate tang numbered “20”, with sling swivels and correct steel ramrod. GWO & C (slightly worn overall, barrel slightly pitted). Presumably converted to smooth bore for the civilian market. £350-400

Seaforth Highlanders on Friday 1st July 1881, their Colonel being HRH Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany until his death in 1884. Cat examples of this design worn on piper’s baldric.
