Barrel mounted tangent rearsight graduated in degrees windage adjustable foresight (now missing). Tang fitting on wrist for vernier sight. Walnut stocked chequered at wrist and fore-end. Complete with ram-rod. Hammer screw missing.

A. 451 percussion sporting rifle by Turner. 33" octagonal barrel with patent breech. Lockplate engraved "THOMAS TURNER 8 FISHER ST. BIRMINGHAM". The barrel top-flat engraved "MAKER'S PATENT". This probably refers to Turner's patent No. 958 of 16th April 1860 for a non-fouling system of progressive depth rifling. Half-stocked in walnut with chequering at wrist and fore-end. Circular iron patch box to side of butt iron pistol-grip cap and horn tip to fore-end. White metal escutcheon to underside of butt engraved with the head of a griffon. Tangent rearsight now missing windage adjustable foresight and hammer screw missing. Two ramrod pipes with wooden rod.

A scarce German 14 bore military matchlock rifle c 1630, 63" overall, octagonal barrel 50" finely rifled with 30 grooves, the breech stamped with mark of a 5 branched plant in a shield (Stockel a.5735) and 2 maker's marks of I.K. over a trefoil (Stockel a. 3398), the rearsight combined with a shallow pan for stubbing out the match, plain flat lock of wheellock shape with simple serpent and hinged pan cover, fullstocked with fluted triangular butt, iron trigger guard and 3 brass fore end bands. Good Working Order and Condition (some worm and filling to fore end, ramrod replaced); with its rare iron mounted wooden rest with swivelling sprung U shaped fork, the haft with fabric band having taselled edges. Good Condition Plate 30. (2)

An American double barrelled .380" over 16 bore "mule ear" percussion rifle/gun, 44" overall, round barrels 27¾", the upper barrel fitted with ratchet type rearsight and with ramrod pipes on either side; simple back action lock engraved with scrolls and stamped "C.Thompson" , the two hammers emanating from a single opening in the plate and apparently operating simultaneously from the single trigger, nicely figured walnut plains type butt with German silver mounts including scrolled and spurred trigger guard, deeply crooked butt plate and small butt trap. A good .450" Needham's patent bolt action needle fire sporting rifle by Rigby, Dublin, number 10971, 46¼" overall, deeply etched damascus octagonal barrel 28" with 3 folding leaf rearsights, the breech engraved "Wm & Jno Rigby, Dublin"; the hinge up breech also engraved "W & J Rigby" amid scrolls and with safety catch; nicely figured walnut halfstock with horn fore end cap, deeply chequered wrist and pronounced cast; finely engraved steel mounts, the trigger guard with doe, the large butt box with hound chasing a stag. Very Good Order and Condition, Clean and quite crisp condition, the metal work retaining much original colour (action requires attention). Plate 34

A .62" Tower Baker flintlock rifle officially adapted to take a socket bayonet, 46" overall, twist barrel 30" with Tower proofs, the bayonet bar removed and the mortices filled; flat lock impressed with crowned "GR" and "Tower", walnut fullstock with cheekpiece but no ramrod slit, the fore end officially shortened to accomodate the socket bayonet; regulation brass mounts including early pattern butt box, sling swivels and correct steel ramrod. Good Working Order and basically Good Condition (the barrel well refinished, well reconverted from percussion). A good rare .704" back action lock Brunswick percussion rifle, 46" overall, well rebrowned twist barrel 30" with Enfield proofs, stamped "1842 Enfield", and with standard bayonet bar at muzzle; the back action lock engraved with crowned "VR", "Rl. Manufactory Enfield" and stamped 1842, walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts including large butt box, sling swivels and good replacement steel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition. A fine cased 6 shot 120 bore open wedge frame single action long spur transitional percussion revolver, by Joseph Lang, 10½" overall, octagonal barrel 4¼", the top flat engraved "J. Lang, 22 Cockspur St, London", with plunger type rammer beneath, London proved, scroll engraved frame, hammer and trigger guard, the chambers numbered 1 to 6 on the front face of the cylinder, chequered dark walnut butt with vacant escutcheon and engraved steel butt cap with hinged trap. Very Good Working Order and Crisp Condition, retaining nearly all original blued and colour hardened finish, in its original purple velvet lined fitted oak case, with circular brass escutcheon in the lid and maker's trade label of "Joseph Lang, Gun and Rifle Manufacturer by appointment to His Majesty the King of Holland", containing good shell embossed pistol flask retaining virtually all original lacquer, 110 bore steel pincer ball mould with rammer to one arm, turnscrew, nipple key, loading/cleaning rod, turned bone box for spare nipples, and Eley Bros cap tin. A Presentation Jambiya Dagger, with gold mounts and horn grip, the scabbard with gilt woven decoration and mounts, in its velvet lined case. A Silver Mounted Jambiya Dagger, the scabbard with silver and gilt metal woven decoration, (2). Provenance: Field Marshal Sir Roland Gibbs, GCB, CBE, DSO, MC, Chief of the General Staff, thence by decent. Roland Christopher Gibbs was the youngest son of Major G.M. Gibbs of Cirenchester. He was educated at Eaton and Sandhurst, and commissioned into the King's Royal Rifle Corps, the 60th Rifles, in 1940. He won the Military Cross three years later in North Africa, and received the DSO for his gallantry and leadership during the Battle of the Rhineland in February 1945. In 1966 Gibbs was sent to Aden as Chief of Staff to Admiral Sir Michael Le Fanu, and played a leading role in the evacuation and the strengthening of the British presence in the Persian Gulf.
