Folds, else very good to fine. WITH: "Stride Forward to Learn from Daqing and Make a New Contribution in Aiding Agriculture" (Shanghai: Shanghai People's Publishing House), 1977, 19 3/4" x 30 1/4", a depiction of a smiling worker driving a tractor, with rows upon rows of agricultural equipment outside of a warehouse in the background. Fine. WITH: "People's Militia is the Foundation of Our Victory" (Beijing: Beijung 76 Middle School), 1975, 220 3/4" x 30 1/4", a depiction of a militia group, including two women armed with Type 56/SKS and Type 63 rifles, under the leadership of a uniformed officer, approaching the enemy through waist-deep swamp water. Folds, minor chipping, else very good. WITH: "A World to Win" (no publisher or date), 22 1/4" x 33 3/4", a photo-illustration of a group of women marching with a large image of Mao Zedong, with the title printed in ten languages around the edges, and with a slogan of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement in English and Spanish below. Folds, pin holes at the corners, else very good. Four pieces.

The title of the piece is printed in white on a red ground. Slight chipping at the edges, else very good. From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.

Minor chipping and small tears at the edges, else very good. WITH: "We Should Be Prepared From Now On" ([n.p.]: People's Art Press), 1971, 30" x 20 3/4", a depiction of a People's Liberation Army soldier with full pack and rifle, holding a copy of Mao's "Little Red Book", with a column of soldiers marching through a mountain pass in the background. Some chipping at the edges, with minor paper loss, else very good. WITH: "The Educated Youth Should Go to the Countryside to be Reeducated by the Poor and Lower-Middle Class Peasants" (Sichuan: Sichuan People's Press), 1969, 30" x 20 3/4", a depiction of a smiling young man and woman on either side of a farmer holding a copy of Mao's "Little Red Book", with other farmers and workers in a background, framed against a wide river valley showing both agricultural and industrial scenery, lit by a rising sun. The "reeducation" practiced throughout China during the Cultural Revolution of these period was rarely as pleasant for anyone involved as depicted here. Pin holes at the corners, minor chipping, else very good. Three pieces.

Folds, a small hole at center-left which has been mended on the verso with archival tape, else very good.

“SUPPORT THE PEOPLE'S ANTI-IMPERIALIST MOVEMENT ACROSS THE WHOLE WORLD!"Striking color poster by artist You Long Gu: "Support the People's anti-imperialist movement across the whole world!”, published by Shanghai People’s Art Publishing House, 1967. A dramatic, vividly colored 30" x 42" poster from the "internationalist" period of the Cultural Revolution, when the Chinese and their Cuban allies were making inroads into Latin America and Africa. Depicts three figures, a black man, an Hispanic man holding a rifle, and an Asian woman, looking hopefully towards the horizon and the future, with a red sun representing Mao and his teachings in the background. Very minor edge wear, else fine condition. From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.

A DSO GROUP OF FOUR TO COL W B RITCHIE S LANCS REGT. A George V Distinguished Order awarded to Major William Buchanan Ritchie in the London Gazette dated 18th February 1915. A 1914 Star and bar named to Captain W B Ritchie S. Lan. R. British War & Victory Medals named to Lt Col W B Ritchie. The latter with Oakleaf emblem on the ribbon. William B Ritchie was the youngest son of Major J Ritchie who also served in the Prince of Wales Own South Lancashire Regt. Commissioned into the Regiment aged 21 years in 1899, his first service abroad was in France from the 14th August 1914. Mentioned in Despatches for his actions during the Retreat from Mons, in the 19th October 1914 edition of the London Gazette. His Distinguished Service Order was awarded in the London Gazette of the 18th February 1915. 'For services in connection with operations in the field.' Again Mentioned in Despatches on the 4th January 1917. Major Ritchie was Invalided home in October 1914, after his DSO recommendation was put forward for his rearguard action during the retreat. He later took part in The Battle of The Somme in 1916. Again invalided home in 1917, he again returned to the Front until the Armistice. After the War he also served for two years in Ireland, thence Egypt and India. His death aged 59 years was reported in the Gloucestershire Echo on the front page of the 13th September 1937 edition. The death took place at his home at 'Halfacre' Leckhampton of Colonel Willaim Buchanan Ritchies DSO late the Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire Regt). Colonel ritchie was the youngest son of the late Major J Ritchie S Lancs Regt. Colonel Ritchie commenced a long and distinguished army career in 1899 when he joined The Prince of Wales Volunteers at 21. His promotion was rapid Captain 1904, Major in 1914, Lt Col 1921 and Colonel 1927. He went to France with the British Expeditionary Force on the outbreak of war and took part in the retreat from Mons. He was mentioned in despatches and invested with the Distinguished Service Order for a part he took in a rearguard action. In October 1914 he was invalided home but took command of and trained a service Battalion which he subsequently took to France in 1916 and took part in the Battle of the Somme. He remained in FGrance on active service when once more he was invalided home. He returned to France in 1918 and remained there until the armistice. He served for two years as second in commandof the 1st battalion of the Prince of Wales Volunteers. In 1921 he commanded the 2nd Battalion of the regiment. After services in Egypt and India he returned to the UK, and was offered command of the South Staffordshire Territorial Brigade but ill health forced him to refuse the opportunity. Shortly afterwards he retired from the army. In April 1914 Colonel richie married Ethel youngest daughter of the late Mr J D MacVicar MA who lived in Cheltenham for many years. Colonel Ritchie has lived in Cheltenham since his retirement in 1927. He was Secreatry of the Leckhampton Branch Conservative Association. Born the 16th September 1877, he joined the 9th Battalion Rifle Brigade as a junior. After service in the Militia he joined the South Lancs Regt 25/2/1899. He was firstly with the 2nd Battalion POW Volunteers, then commanded the 11th Battalion from April 1916 until 27th November 1917 Again with the 2nd Battalion in Egypt and India. Included with copied photographs and career details etc, is a copy of him with King George V inspecting the Depot at Shoreham in 1927. In Sir John French's despatches he states the Battle of the Aisne 5th-23rd of September Captain W B Ritchie South Lancashire Regt (most senior officer mentioned from the Regiment in that Gazette). LORD CHELMSFORD's SWORD. A Grenadier Guards sword by Henry Wilkinson of Pall Mall London, un-numbered with Lord Chelmsford's family crest on the blade. Gothic hilt with extremely clean and crisp 32" slightly curved blade, contained in a black leather scabbard with brass mounts. the 1822 pattern sword has VR and Grenadier Guards Flaming Grenade device, which is also inset in the gilt hilt guard. Provenance. Purchased as Lot 38 of the DNW Sale of the 14th December 2006. Frederic Thesiger was first the Lord then 2nd Baron Thesiger. Born 31/05/1827 he died of a seizure whilst playing snooker at the United Services Club on the 9th April 1905. Educated at Eton his Military Service was to begin, with a failure in 1844 to purchase a Commission in the Grenadier Guards. He was successful in joining the Rifle Brigade later that year. Then in 1845 he purchased a position, in the "Grenadier Guards. He served in the Crimea receiving the Crimea Medal, Turkish and Sardinian Medals also the Order of Medjidie 5th Class (MID). Then in the Indian Mutiny as a Lt Col 95th (Derbyshire) Regt (MID) later as an ADC or DAAG. Again in the Abbassynian War he was at Magdala and awarded a CB also made ADC to the Queen.. He met and befriended Sir Henry Bartle Frere, during his service. In South Africa with the local rank of Lt General in 1878. He successfully completed the 9th Cape War in 1878. The Disasters and final then Victory at the burning of Ulundi, are all well known. It was this last gasp victory before Garnet Wolseley took command, that partially rescued his reputation. ( 1879 he was awarded the GCB) His part in Zulu Dawn was played by Peter O'toole . He is buried in Brompton Cemetery London. See Illustration

A RIFLE BRIGADE TRIO. A 1914/15 Star named to B-727 Pte C Lloyd Rif: Brig. British War & Victory medals named to B-727 C.Sgt C Lloyd Rif Brig. Charles Lloyd served in the Rifle Brigade in France from the 20th May 1915 onwards. A 1920 dated official postcard addressed to B727 C.Q.M.S of the Rifle Brigade, address C Lloyd 23 Stockwell Green, London SW, is with this mounted for wear trio. Also Rifle Brigade (Green Jackets) Sergeants Stripes and whistle cord and original Cap Badge. Together with a handwritten memo stating C Q M Sergeant Lloyd had handed in his complete uniform to stores.

A CASED WEBLEY MK 11 SERVICE AIR RIFLE. A Webley Service Rifle in a leather case with Webley & Scott Ltd Premier Works Birmingham label in the lid. The bolt action Air Rifle has Patent No 371548 on peep sight mount, the winged W&S badge on the other side. Various other patents are marked on the action, also the makers details. Complete with .177 and .22 barrels, both marked S520, as is the rifle behind the rigger guard. Some tools and various Webley & Scott tins with pellets, are also in the case. See Illustration

AN ENGRAVED WEBLEY MARK 11 SERVICE RIFLE .22. A wooden cased Webley Mark 11 Service Air Rifle, with both barrel and rifle numbered S11055/11055. With partial foilage engraving to the barrel, the action itself is almost fully engraved. Amid the foilage in an wavy scroll is Webley Service Air Rifle Mk 11. The engraving appears to be of a very high standard, perhaps a presentation or one off piece. A Webley oil can and pellet tin, tools etc are included in the lot. See Illustration

Lot 91

AN 18thC BAVARIAN HUNTING RIFLE. A wheel-lock German hunting rifle of considerable quality. Carved fullstocked with classical cheek-plate and sliding compartment containing the winder. An octagonal flared barrel of 33.5/8" length, which has a coarse rifling of some seven grooves. The ornate stock is carved with chequered and swirl patterns with brass and steel furniture. The very ornate wheel-lock action consists of a mystical beast flint striker, with a dog and a deer hunting scene in good detail. With an overall length of some 46.1/2". The lockplate bears the makers name as Andreas Pehiem or Beheim. Probably around 1740, makers of this name/family were listed as working in the 16th/17th Centuries. Under his name is Wasserburg, which was situated in Bavaria. See Illustrations

AN ARABIAN FLINTLOCK RIFLE. A well made flintlock action Jezail rifle, of the 19thC. The 52" barrel is of octagonal form with front and rear sights fitted. The stock is inlaid with wire patterns and bone plates, also a bone buttplate. Fitted with an interesting lock and action, with gilt scroll decoration. 67.1/2" overall length.
