A Victorian 1827 Pattern Rifle Volunteer Sword, the etched, straight, single edge, fullered blade, length 83 cm, bearing crowned Victoria monogram and with Volunteer Rifles crest to the reverse amongst panels of scrolling foliage, maker's name ''E. Woods & Son Makers, Bow Street, London'' to the ricasso, the steel gothic hilt incorporating the regimental crest, wire bound fishskin grip, steel scabbard with twin ring suspensions. Blade with light patches of faint rust. Hilt and scabbard slightly rust pitted. Otherwise generally good overall.

A Good Victorian Silver Hilt Presentation Sword to the Staffordshire Volunteer Rifles, the 83cm single edge fullered and plated steel blade by Reeves, Toledo Works, Birmingham, crisply etched ''Presented to Captain John Nock Bagnall, by the Non-Commissioned Officers and Effective Members of the XIIth Staffordshire [Bilston] Company of Rifle Volunteers as a Mark of their High Appreciation of his Services as their Commanding Officer and Respectful Esteem and Regard they Entertain for him Personally'', further with a coat-of-arms and Royal cypher all amidst scrolling foliage, the silver hilt bearing traces of gilding, pierced, chased and engraved with anthemion, acanthus leaves and shamrock, incorporating the crest of the Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers and a family crest, the chequered wrythen fluted grip with remnants of wire binding, hallmarks for Birmingham 1860, maker's mark SH, the plated scabbard with twin ring suspensions, 97cm. Wire binding lacking to grip. Scabbard with dent near tip.
Lieutenant Colonel Harry Stephen Bagnall, Burma Rifles (late Green Howards) - an Interesting Collection of Letters, Photographs and Ephemera Relating to his Family and Career in Burma and India, including his commission as 2nd Lieutenant to the Yorkshire Regiment, 1911, an embarkation notice from Bombay to England 1919, sports programmes, newspaper cuttings, dance card, table plans, letters of regret dated 1938 at his leaving Mandalay where he commanded the 2/20th Burma Rifles, letters to him from an Italian Prisoner of War in a camp in India which he had commanded in the 1939-45 War; and also including a letter in gilt tooled leather wallet relating to his grandfather Capt. John Nock Bagnall 12th (Bilston Company of Staffordshire Volunteers); his father's (Thomas Nock Bagnall) commission as 2nd Lieutenant 15th Foot, 1874, with a silver shooting medallion to Lt.Col. T N Bagnall, Royal Jersey Militia and regimental photographs; and his parent's Marriage Certificate 1881, all contained in a large scrap album and two small photograph albums, with a book History of the India Rifle Club, in which he is mentioned several times, two pocket diaries for 1912 and 1919, his silver Green Howards cap badge, Burma Rifles brooch, six sports medals, a Coronation Medal 1911 and an Interesting Album of Photographs showing Burmese and Indian natives, the Delhi Durba, regimental group photographs etc (qty) ** See lot 345 for his silver presentation dha. An Albini-Braendlin Model 1868 Front Hinged Breech 11mm Calibre Military Service Rifle, the 87.5cm steel barrel stamped H/5092, 1868, and various inspector's marks, with hinged ladder rear sight, the interior of the hinged breech numbered 620, the walnut full stock with three steel barrel bands with spring clips and two sling swivels, the left side of the butt stamped 620, the striker numbered 5092, with steel cleaning rod, 136cm. Action works, holds at full and half cock. Some pitting to bore, but rifling is quite crisp. Minor bruising to stock.
Ï’A William IV mahogany reclining armchair, circa 1835, the button upholstered and shaped wing back, reclining and the seat rising when leant back against, the sprung seat flanked by padded arms with scroll terminals, on baluster turned and lappet carved tapering legs at the front, terminating in brass caps and castors, this chair is very likely made to a Daw's patent design, 111cm high, 79cm wide, 92cm deep, together with a mezzotint of The Waterloo Heroes Assembled at Apsley House, after John Prescott Knight (1803-1881) and engraved by Charles George Lewis (1808-1880), published 1st October 1845, image size 55.5cm x 87cm, rosewood frame 120cm x 89cm Provenance: Inverailort, Inverness-shire, the former home of General Sir Alexander Cameron KCB (1781-26 July 1850), known for his distinguished military career with the Rifle Brigade during the Napoleonic Wars, until wounded in the throat at Waterloo in 1815. Cameron saw no more active service after 1815, and his later years were marked only by promotions and honours. In October 1815 he was made a knight of the Russian Order of St Anne; in 1830 he was promoted Colonel; in 1832 he was appointed Deputy-Governor of St. Mawes; in 1838 he was promoted Major-General, and made a KCB; in 1846 he received the Colonelcy of the 74th Regiment. On 26 July 1850 he died at Inverailort. The chair was removed from Inverailort, circa 1996, and then by direct descent to the current owner.
