Rifling is still present but could do with a good clean. The Gew98 has been left in store since the 1970s and hasn’t had much attention since then. The bore is grubby and has light pitting but there is still strong rifling in there. I think with a lot of cleaning the bore would improve significantly but I don’t think it will ever be 100% perfect. The bolt and action appear to function correctly and have some polish remaining as with other parts of the gun there is light corrosion. The metalwork generally has pitting and corrosion the worst part being the butt plate. The other strange thing is the stock which has a two tone effect. From the bolt back through the stock the gun has a very dark finish whereas stock from the bolt forwards has a nice light wood typical of a Mauser in very good condition. It almost looks like the gun has been stored in a saddle holster (if such a thing existed for a Gew98!) and the butt has seen the elements and the rest of the gun has remained dry and safe. In all this will need a lot of TLC but could improve drastically from how it presents currently.

Lot 434

There are signs of use and wear generally, the gilt printed label to the inside has worn through. There are small stains to the inside lining but nothing too defacing. The black fur exterior has some small holes showing through to the underlayer. Very minor signs of wear from cleaning to the metal badges.

BUYER DOES NOT NEED TO TAKE POSSESSION OF THE MODERATOR IF NOT WANTED.Condition report: The bore needs a clean but I cannot see any pitting in there, the action could also do with a full strip and clean as its currently very dirty. The outside of the action has minor corrosion spots to the breech block (should remove easily) and occasional scratches to the action body. The wood has marks from use but nothing defacing. There rifling is still very visible. There is a section of the stock chipped away to the underside near the triggers where the wood meets the action. This is visible from photo 5 online.

Lot 160

BSA Ultra PCP .22 air rifle carbine, serial number B1168 with 10 inch barrel fitted with silencer and Simmons 3-9 x 40 scope, together with two refill valves. No licence required to buy this item, purchaser must be over the age of 18. Cannot be posted to a private address and must be sent to a Registered Firearms Dealer.Condition report: The rifle is generally in good order visually. There is one blemish to the stock near the forend which has been coloured in, see photo online. There are other very minor scratches / marks but nothing defacing. There is a piece of velcro applied to the stock just behind the action. The cylinder cap has slight marring to the finish, it looks like it has jammed and someone has used a tool to unscrew it. The scope has very minor scratches to the surfaces but these are not visible when sighting through.
