WW2 Highland Light Infantry Military Medal group of five comprising MM, 1939-1945 War Medal, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Star and France and Germany Star; three with ribbons; awarded to 1702538 A. Sjt. A.L. Alden H.L.I.; various copies of his citation giving details of his bravery on 26 Sep 44 at Donderdonk France when he single-handedly silenced an enemy machine gun nest. The citation also mentions a further heroic act on 15 Nov 44 when he risked his life to obtain vital information on the position of enemy mines and booby traps saving the lives of many other soldiers; the collection also comes with two contemporary group photographs of his Highland Light Infantry regiment, copy photograph of him being awarded the MM by Field-Marshall Montgomery, two post-war tug-o-war medallions and other items; together with a shooting medallion awarded to Gnr. There is some pitting to some of the polished parts such as the cleaning rod. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are scratches and dents from use but nothing defacing.There are some minor chips to the cleaning rod channel.

Following the end of hostilities, the Canadian volunteers were allowed to keep their Sniders and what remaining ammunition they had as by this time they were well beyond obsolete. The letter details how Reuben Reeds, of farming background, could not bring himself to shoot at the Dutch farmers and consequently brought a large amount of his allocated ammunition home. He also quite rightly feared using a single-shot black powder cartridge arm against the repeating clip-fed Mausers carried by the Boers. American percussion .45 calibre rifle the barrel by Remington, American percussion .45 calibre rifle, 29.5 inch heavy profile octagonal barrel probably converted from flintlock, stamped Remington to the underside and fitted with 20th-century Parker Hale sights, the half stock fitted with brass furniture including scrolling trigger guard, patch box and cresent butt plate, mid 19th century. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.114cm long There is a very strange perfect ring mark around a quarter of the way down the bore (from the muzzle) which does not look like pitting and almost looks machined but I cannot see why. (see image uploaded) Outside of this the bore of this rifle is generally good with some light surface corrosion towards the muzzle. The front sight is a modern replacement and the rear sight might have been changed too. The tang has been adapted to take a peep sight. There is a fair amount of pitting around the nipple area. The barrel exterior has some scuffs, marks, and minor corrosion spots. The nipple has been replaced. The action works correctly with a strong spring. The ramrod is a replacement. The stock has some scruffs and marks, there is a filled area and a split around the lock but outside this no splits or repairs.

The bore has some very light scattered pit marks, but still presents a decent rifling pattern. The action works correctly with strong springs and positive lock-up. The barrel has a large amount of blue present, the metalwork has some light pitting and has a brown patina. The stock has a fair amount of dents, marks, and scratches. There is a short split on the upper tang.

Lee Metford .303 bolt action rifle LICENCE REQUIRED Lee Metford MkII L.S.A. .303 bolt action rifle converted to a Charger Loader Lee Enfield and set up for MkII round nose ball ammunition, 30-inch barrel fitted with folding ladder sights and secured by two bands the front being fitted with a cleaning rod and bayonet lug, the action with charger loader added, the wrist joint with Crown VR 1894 date and L.S.A. Co. stamp above numeral II, the reverse side stamped with further London Small Arms stamps and 1910 date and C.L.L.E. fitted with original volley sights, the wrist stamped with later owner name J. Cambell, Birmingham Nitro proofs, serial number 9262B, the bolt numbered 13747. UK FIREARMS LICENCE WITH .303 VARIATION OR RFD REQUIRED .125cm long The rifle shows signs of age with a dark patina. The bore has a strong rifling pattern through most of the tube but does have worn rifling around the throat just ahead of the chamber. The metal finish outside of the rifle is of worn and fading bluing with some light speckled pitting and surface corrosion. The magazine is more corroded and pitted than the rest of the rifle. The VR stamping is lighter than would be expected indicating a refinish, perhaps at the time of conversion. The Action works correctly, the bolt face has some wear to it and some light surface dents around the primer area. The bolt has a different serial number to the rifle. The wood stock has lots of dents, scratches and marks, but no repairs or splits, there is a chip to the wood around the cleaning rod channel edge. The butt is a different colour and patina to the rest of the wood indicating it has been refinished or replaced.

Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.140cm long The gun is in reasonable condition with a nice patina, showing signs of age and use. The main problem is that the breech block catch lacks the retaining screw and consequently does not operate and is locked shut. The metalwork to the exterior of the gun has some light pitting. The bore shows small signs of use but a good strong rifling pattern is present with just some small patches of frosting. The blued finish is showing signs of wear.  There is some light surface speckling to the polished parts. The action cocks and releases with a strong spring. The wood stock is free from splits or repairs, there are however dents and scratches. Some screw heads show signs of being worked.

Buyer must be over the age of 18, photo ID will be required if the lot is to be posted out. 140cm longThe rifle is in average condition and would benefit from a good clean up. The bore has a couple of light pitting spots, these would improve with careful cleaning and a reasonable rifling pattern remains. The metalwork on the exterior of the rifle has some recent corrosion spots, there is some light pitting with slightly moe pitting around the nipple area. Most of the blued metal finish has turned to a brown grey patina. The action works with a strong mainspring, the nipple has been replaced. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are a few small chips around the ramrod channel and beside the first barrel band. The wood has some scratch lines from the second barrel band being slid along when stripping the rifle down.

The bore shows signs of quite a bit of use and the edges of the rifling are softening slightly, there is some light pitting in the groves. The action appears to function correctly. The metal finish is worn and has some scratches and marks. The stock has been refinished and the chequering is low, it has some scuffs, scratches and marks but no damages or repairs. The butt plate has been changed and the sling swivels are missing. No history is known of this rifle or round count.

Remington and Sons, Ilion N.Y.' the underside stamped 44 2 4/10 for the 44-90 straight calibre, stamped L.L Hepburn twice below the forend, fitted with a windage adjustable front globe sight with spirit level, and folding tang mounted diopter sight, the action with faint colour case harden stamped 'Hepburns Patent' figured walnut stock with chequered pistol grip and chequered gutta-percha butt plate bearing the ERS Remington logo, serial number 6686 to the barrel, trigger tang and inside edge of forend. Section 58(2) antique/obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Photo ID will be required if the rifle is to be posted out.127cm long The rifle is in good to excellent general condition. The bore is excellent with crisp rifling and sharp edges. The bluing on the exterior of the barrel is very good with very light wear to the edges. The action works correctly with a strong spring. There is faint colour case harden to action still visible but some signs of very light pitting marks can be seen, these are darker around the trigger guard and tang. There are some very occasional small corrosion spots dotted around such as to the chequered part of the hammer, the tang, and to the winding thread of the rear sight. I am not sure if the front and rear sights are the ones that the rifle started out with. They show slightly more signs of wear to the bluing and may have been added to the rifle in its working life. The stock is free from splits of repairs. There are a few dents and light scratches but nothing defacing. There are small areas where the compressed rubber buttplate does not fit quite flush with the bottom of the butt, this is probably due to slight warping of the buttplate but is a minor concern. Some of the screw heads show signs of being worked.

The action cocks and releases, the frizzen is a replacement to the lock. The stock has two splits at the muzzle, there is a restuck chip beside the tang, the patch box has been added recently and is a different colour. There are dents, scratches and marks to the woodwork. There is a soldered repair to the trigger guard.
