A Second Model Brunswick Rifle, complete with bayonet, 30inch two groove rifled barrel fitted with rear leaf sights, border engraved lock stamped 1864 over TOWER, crown over VR at the tail and with a broad arrow over I, full stocked with regulation brass mounts including patch box, correct steel ramrod and brass hilted sword bayonet.

* Roberts (Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh, 1st Earl of Kandahar, Pretoria and Waterford, 1832-1914). Coalport commemorative china plate. South African War; Field Marshal Lord Roberts, V.C. & his Principal Commanding Officers, Boer Ultimatum 10th October 1899, blue and white plate with gilt decorative glaze, descriptive inscription on verso of plate, diameter approx. 260mm, mounted on a velvet background, framed and glazed with ‘cut out’ on verso to allow sight of the legend. The plate shows a head and shoulders portrait of Roberts set into the silhouette of the Victoria Cross. The Medal has the names of the major battles of the campaign. The borders have a ribbon running around the rim carrying the names of the principal officers serving during the Boer war, interspersed with a martial motive of crossed sword and rifle surmounted by a pith helmet. Probably made in 1900 to commemorate the ending of the Boer war. (1)

[Fellowes, Lt.-Col. Ronald Townshend]. Diary 1914-1920, 161pp., one or two light fingermarks, original black morocco, some edge wear, small 4to. Lt.-Col. Ronald Townshend Fellowes, 2nd Baron Ailwyn (1886-1936) was a Captain in the Rifle Brigade at the outbreak of the First World War, commanding the 1st Battalion from 1916-18. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1915, the D.S.O. in 1918, and mentioned in despatches five times, and was wounded on the Droucourt-Queant line, September 1918. (1)

Great War Casualty Group of three Medals, 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal; together with Memorial Plaque, to 1764 Lance Corporal T May, 8th Battalion London Regiment (Post Office Rifles); together with some relevant ephemera including a framed Photo of May in Post Office Uniform, Field Service Postcards including one dated 21/5/15 “Wounded”, his Post Office Rifle Club Membership Card, Letters etc. Lance Corporal May died on 18th September 1916 and is commemorated at Heilly Station Cemetery

Died 1842.
