Royal Irish Constabulary Ballymahon Officer’s Full Dress Tunic and Overalls. A very rare example for a District Inspector 1st Class, by JB Johnstone. Fine black cloth, edged and trimmed with black square cord. Black velvet collar (never fitted with collar-badges) and cuffs, both edged and trimmed with black braid as for Field Officers of Rifle regiments. Five loops of square cord with netted caps each side on front, fastened with woven olivettes, and forming three “bullet holes” above and below, and a trefoil at the ends. A double row of square cord on the backseams, traced with Russia braid and forming a trefoil at the top and an Austrian knot below the waist. Plaited shoulder-cords with netted buttons. Black quilted lining bearing tailor’s label to HG Moriarty, Esq. One shoulder-button absent, lining slightly frayed, minor moth damage, otherwise GC ... Together with a pair of black cloth Full Dress overalls bearing 1¾ in. stripes of black ‘Shamrock’ lace. Leather foot-straps. Severe moth damage to overalls ... Together also with a pair of sword-slings of black glazed sealskin with white metal fittings, attached to a black web underbelt. VGC (3 items)District Inspector H. Moriarty was posted to Ballymahon in 1906. County Inspectors also wore the same pattern of tunic. The official description includes the term “bullet holes”.
German Third Reich WW2 Army / Waffen SS General Assault Badge by Frank & Reif, Stuttgart. A good die-cast zinc example with vertical needle pin. Rifle and bayonet superimposed on oval oak wreath surmounted by eagle and swastika. Maker’s impressed details to reverse VGCInstituted 1st June, 1940.
Royal Horse Guards Circa 1830 Officer’s Sword by Prosser London. A rare regimental pattern, the 39 inch blade with cutler’s details of “Prosser manufacturer to the King London”. Also with a heavy stamp “P” inspection stamp and to the back of the blade impressed “Prosser”. The hilt with an ornate scrolling three bar open guard, enclosing a shagreen grip, with gilt twist wire binding. The interior of the guard with a large embossed crown and to the pommel embossed scrolling decoration and an English rose. Complete with original steel scabbard with gilt mounts to the loose rings and chape. The throat of the scabbard engraved with “Old English” style letters possibly “WT” Overall GC.Possibly carried by Captain Walter Robert Tyrrell Cornet 1830, Lieutenant 1833, Captain 1837. He is believed to go on to command the 1st Suffolk Rifle Volunteers retiring with the rank of Lt Col 1877.
Victorian Welsh 6th Denbighshire Rifle Volunteers Officer’s Sword. A good and rare example of the Light Infantry regulation pattern. The slightly curved single edged blade is etched with a crowned VR cypher and title “6th Denbigh Rifle Vols”. Also etched wit the original owners name of “ARTHUR W ADAMS” To the forte the retailer’s details of Hobson of London. The hilt with shagreen grip and open guard with Light Infantry bugle. Housed in metal scabbard fitted with two loose rings. Etching to the blade clear.
Scottish. 3rd (Morayshire) VB Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs Duke of Albany’s) Plaid Brooch circa 1898-1908. A good heavy die-cast nickel example by R & HB Kirkwood, Edinburgh numbered 43. Quoit ornamented with fern leaf design mounted with a stag’s head cabossed, in high relief. Stout pin to reverse. Scottish. 5th (Perthshire Highland) VB Black Watch post 1887 OR’s plaid brooch. A fine die-stamped white metal example. Thistle wreath enclosing a circlet inscribed “DIA AGUS AR DUTHAICH”; rampant Lion to voided centre. Stout pin to reverse. VGCAlso worn earlier by the Breadalbane Rifle Vols who became 5th VB Black Watch in 1887 by GO 181.
3rd Gurkha Rifle Regiment 1897 Birmingham hallmarked silver Victorian Officer’s pouch belt plate. A very fine and scarce example by B & P (Bent and Parker). Within laurel sprays surmounted by a Guelphic crown resting “DELHI” tablet, a Maltese cross with balls to the tips; to the centre, on a circlet inscribed “THIRD GURKHA RIFLE REGT” crossed kukris with “3” between the blades. Crowned Maltese cross bearing title circlet; Royal Arms, two wildebeests and scroll “DEFENCE” to voided centre. Three loops to reverse. VGC (Owen 384)Originally raised in 1861 as Pietermaritzburg Volunteer Rifle Corps; redesignated Maritzburg Rifles in 1868, Natal Royal Rifles in 1889 and Natal Royal Regiment in 1910; disbanded 1913.
Saint Martin’s Companies, 13th (Queen’s) Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps Victorian Officer’s pouch belt plate. A good example worn by I and K Companies circa 1860. Rectangular gilt plate with canted corners mounted with silver on copper device of St. Martin and the beggar with scroll below “ST. MARTIN’S”. Four screw posts to reverse. Traces only of original finish. GC

Elongated cast Maltese cross mounted with a die-stamped crowned strap “QUOCUNQUE IECERIS STABIT”; Triskelion to mirrored centre. Two screw posts to reverse. VGCThis unit held the unique distinction of being the only Rifle Volunteer unit that did not transfer to the Territorial Force in 1908. Disbanded March 1920.

Within crowned laurel sprays, mounted on the seeded backing plate, a circlet inscribed “36TH MIDDLESEX RIFLE VOLUNTEER” with central lined shield bearing crossed swords and mural crown from the Arms of Paddington. Two screw posts to reverse. Service wear. GCFormed 29th February 1860 at Paddington; renumbered 18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers in 1880. 1st April 1908 transferred to the new Territorial Force as 10th Bn The London Regiment
1st Westmorland Rifle Volunteers Victorian pouch belt plate circa 1860. A good die-stamped white strap inscribed “1ST WESTMORELAND RIFLE VOLUNTEERS 1860”. Trophy of arms to voided centre with scroll “CRECY” and “FLODDEN”. Two screw posts to reverse. VGCRedesignated 2nd VB Border Regt. 1st December, 1887.
19th Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps Victorian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1880-88. A good rare silvered example. Crowned star mounted with laurel sprays and title strap; flaming grenade to black velvet centre. On tail of the strap, an applied rose. Three loops to reverse. VGCFormed 8th January 1861 adopting the title “Liverpool Press Guard” the following year. Became 19th Corps in 1880, redesignated 6th VB King’s Liverpool Regiment in 1888.

1st (Carlisle) Cumberland Rifle Volunteer Corps OR’s forage cap badge circa 1860-87. A good scarce die-stamped white metal example. Crowned strung bugle with “1” over “CRV” between the cords. Two loops to reverse. VGCFormed 15th February, 1860 at Carlisle. Following consolidation in 1880, became part of 1st (Cumberland) VB Border Regt. in December 1887.

A novelty Victorian mechanical propelling pencil and quill cutter combination, fashioned as a musket rifle, in rosewood, the barrel/muzzle end with fold-out propelling pencil, the pencil lead activated by a simple twist mechanism, the stock end with the fold-out steel bladed quill cutter, length when closed, 3½in. (8.8cm.), together with an Edwardian rifle propelling pencil. (2) *Condition: the musket in excellent working condition, the rifle needing a little attention.
An interesting 'R B Rodda' letter copies / sales ledger / diary - Colonial Indian arms trade interest, World One period, the copy paper with first letter on page one, dated May 6th 1915 and ending on page 110, dated, May 14th, 1919, many pages with correspondence between R B Rodda & Co, Calcutta and F B Prike, England, about import, export of supplies, page 58 with large list - 3000 caps; 100000 breech and muzzle loading caps; ball cartridges of all sizes; 1500 empty rifle cases etc etc, bank letters and other correspondence, other notable names within - W J Simmons; Reginald Leeson; D J Todd; HA Smith, bank letters, a fascinating insight to early 20th century trade between England and India, the ledger contained in wooden sleeve with heavy steel fittings.
A set of three WW1 medals - Kings Royal Rifles Corps, awarded to '5890 Pte. F. Wills K. R. Rifle C.', comprising the silver war medal, victory medal and 1914/15 star, with ribbons and pair of miniatures; together with another silver war medal, uninscribed. (6) *Condition:- Trio: Two areas of green corrosion to edge of one face of victory medal. Otherwise good with good patina. Ribbons good.- Miniatures: VG- Unmarked war medal: Lacks ribbon mount.
