ETIENNE', blued scroll engraved action with hot air balloon trademark, blued pre-charged cylinder, 13 1/2in. figured walnut stock with chequered grip, chequered dark horn butt-plate with hot air balloon trademark and 'PAUL GIFFARD INVENTEUR', and some original blued finish throughout (minor surface corrosion), in original leather slip (some damage).

A GERMAN 22-BORE WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLE, second half of the 17th century, with 31 1/4in. swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with eight grooves, engraved lock with internal wheel and manual pan- cover (engraving worn), figured walnut full stock carved with scrollwork around the cheek-piece (some cracks and repairs), engraved brass mounts (some replaced), sliding wooden patchbox-cover carved with scrollwork, applied leather cheek-pad, later ramrod (some surface corrosion throughout, trigger-plate detached).
