Wyndham Lloyd (British, 1909 - 1997) 20th Century) Norfolk landscapes signed lower left "Wyndham Lloyd 1980" oil on board (2) 38 x 59cm (15 x 23in) During the Second World War he served in the Ceylon Planters Rifle Corps in North Africa, and returned to England in 1960. A noted landscape artist, he had little formal art training, and apart from six months of night classes in Colchester, was mostly self-taught. Condition is fine.

A mid Vic officer’s peaked forage cap of the Ayreshire Rifle Volunteers, of kepi style, PL peak (crazed), red white and green chequered headband, embroidered badge with “ARV” on red within oval Garter inscribed “Ayrshire Rifle Volunteers”, all in a crowned thistle wreath, scarlet piping to top with ornament and purl button, leather and silk lining with maker’s name Gardner & Co Argyle Street, Glasgow. GC (minor moth to headband hardly affecting the appearance). Plate 1
An officer’s charcoal grey cloth shako, black PL peak, headband and top, with a line of silver braid around the headband and top, silver plated bugle badge on scarlet cloth backing with numeral “3” in the centre, separate crown above, red ball tuft plume with silver wirebound stem socket, leather and silk lining with maker’s name “Smallpage Cowlam & Co, Military Outfitter, Leeds, and 43 Maddox Street, London ”, PL chinstrap, in its tin case; possibly 3rd West York (Bradford) Rifle Volunteers; see also lot 699. A Sharps Patent .38” RF single shot rifle by Tipping & Lawden, 38” overall, round barrel 24” with folding rearsight and B’ham proofs, numbererd 225, the centre hammer action stamped “Tipping & Lawden/ Sharps Patent” around the hammer screw, with sheath trigger, the barrel released to slide forward for loading by a catch beneath the fore end, a lever on the left side operating the cartridge extractor, the walnut butt with chequered pistol grip. GWO & C (the barrel release spring missing, butt plate pitted). Plate 6
An 8mm French Mle 1866 Lebel bolt action rifle, renumbered on breech 14744, the frame marked “Manufacture d’Armes St Etienne, MLE 1886”, the breech stamped “MA S1891”, GWO & C (the butt bruised, the fore end and barrel bands replaced), with COD; with 1916 pattern spike bayonet in its scabbard (worn, hilt dented, fails to fully enter scabbard).
