A SILVERED BRONZE COMMEMORATIVE STATUETTE OF CAPT W P NEVILL CHARGING THE GERMAN POSITIONS WITH RIFLE AND FOOTBALL, C1916-20 on ebonised base with engraved tablet B COY 8TH BATTALION THE EAST SURREY REGT AT THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME 1ST JULY 1916, 13.5cm h, the underside with (worn) ivorine retailer's label, in fitted oak box This statuette commemorates one of the most bizarre yet heroic events of the Great War. Capt. Nevill, who was killed early in the charge, urged his men to dribble two footballs across the mile and quarter of no man's land, both of which were inscribed with rousing messages to inspire the men to victory. Of the two (or possibly four) footballs one is in the PWRR Museum at Dover and the other was lost in the fire that destroyed the National Trust property Clandon Park in April. ++Polish wear and residues but complete and undamaged, no replated and scarce

A good stout wooden powder/cartridge magazine, c 1870, 14” x 9” x 8” high, the circular brass lid escutcheon engraved “J Scott Bankes Soughton Hall”, the inside of the lid bearing trade label of Williams & Powell, Liverpool, “Gun Pistol and Rifle Makers, ...Improved Double Safety Breech Loading Fowling Pieces and Rifles”, internally divided into 2 large and one small compartments for holding powder cannisters, the base with 2 wooden rails pierced for the leather securing strap. A scarce 1887 Turkish contract 9.5mm Mauser bolt action rifle, 49½” overall, barrel 30”, the breech stamped with toughra and various arsenal or ordnance marks, number 123847 on the bolt only, all other markings, including serial numbers, in Arabic, all parts stamped with a small crescent, with sling swivels and original cleaning rod. GWO & C (some light pitting, the barrel and action reblacked overall). As the cartridge for this weapon was only manufactured for a short period, many obsolete rifles were destroyed. Plate 7
An 11.3mm x 59mm (.45” Turkish) 1st type Turkish Model 1874 Peabody Martini rifle, 49” overall, barrel 33¼”, action with safety catch on right side and with Toughra mark and inscription, the left side marked “Peabody & Martini Patents Man’f’d by Providence Tool Co. Prov.R.I. USA”, fullstocked, the butt with traces of ordnance marks and with chequered butt plate, with 3 sling swivels and correct steel cleaning rod. GWO & Clean Condition (cocking indicator replaced, the stock varnished). See internet

Potts, 5th Battalion, London Rifle Brigade was killed in action on the 10th of December 1914, and is Remembered with Honour at the Lancashire Cottage Cemetery, near Leper, Belguim.
A Krnka breech-loading rifle with bayonet dating: third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Russia Round, rifled barrel, with foresight placed on a parallelepiped-shaped base and adjustable rear-sight, with various stamps in Cyrillic and numbers at the base, dated "1872"; typical, brass breech block, stamped with imperial eagle and characters in Cyrillic, iron bolt and opening lever, with a short inscription in Cyrillic; backard spring lock dated "1863" and stamped; long, wooden stock with remains of numbers on the left side of the butt; iron and brass trigger guard, marked with a bow and arrow and letters in Cyrillic, the counter-plate en suite, brass butt-plate and mouth-piece, iron barrel-brackets stamped en suite; stamped, iron ramrod. With socket bayonet (57 cm) with blade of "T" section, featuring remains of stamps. dimensions: length 135 cm.

An interesting double-barreled rifle with bayonet dating: mid-19th Century provenance: Europe Heavy and short, rifled, iron, 24 mm cal. (!) barrels, provided with rib with foresight. On the right side a bayonet with straight blade of triangular section; tang decorated with engraved racemes; backward spring locks, hammer and plated both outlined and engraved with racemes; walnut half stock with checkered neck, chiselled as a deer head at the lower side of the butt, the cheek-piece on the left. Iron mounts engraved with racemes. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod with iron cartridge extractor. dimensions: length totale 121,5 cm.
A 1850 model Corse Voltigeur corps bayonet dating: mid-19th Century provenance: Corse Strong, straight, double-edged blade, ribbed at the center, long tang with fuller; short neck of square section; socket for a double-barrelled rifle, safety lock at the lower part. The Voltigeurs Corses were military units created to track down bandits on the island, set up in 1822 and disbanded in 1850. They used the "Fusil Double Modele 1850" (a double barrelled percussion gun for military use). dimensions: length 40 cm.

ELWELL WARRANTED" and engraved with floral motifs; fine, wooden full stock with brass mounts, partially engraved and pierced; patchbox, on the left side a oval plaque engraved with the US eagle, on the back a shield with monogram "F"; set trigger; ramrod (a break). dimensions: length 149 cm.
