1942, chrome, red blind shutter, serial no. 367163, with Leitz Summitar f/2 50mm lens, chrome, serial no. 814588, body, G, shutter working, lens, VGProvenance: Ex-Bonhams lot 1, 31 October 2017Notes: This particular model of the Leica IIIC is unique in that it features a delayed action mechanism, giving rise to its designation as the Leica IIID. Manufactured during World War II around 1943, only slightly over 400 units were produced. The release arm of the delayed action mechanism differs from that of later IIIF models. However, the IIID's mechanism was notoriously unreliable. Additionally, this camera is notable for its rare red blinds, which were used when the usual black material was unavailable due to wartime shortages. Over time, most red blinds were replaced with black ones, as they provided better light protection.
