Marked on the end of the barrel Chadburn, 71 Lord St. Liverpool., 96 cm long, on an adjustable brass stand with folding scroll legs, 44.5 cm highCharles Henry Chadburn worked as an optical, mathematical and philosophical instrument maker from 1845 to 1861. He exhibited at The Great Exhibition in 1851 and gained a Royal Appointment to Albert, Prince Consort of Queen Victoria as Optician and Instrument Maker. He traded from 71 Lord St and is associated with Chadburn Bros. with works in Liverpool and Sheffield. Later to become Chadburn and Son, William Chadburn was to develop a marine telegraphic system for communication on board ship - the brass Engine Order Telegraph.
