A Georgian brass 3" telescope, with tripod stand and in mahogany case, sold by E&W Smith & Co., Liverpool, the body of the telescope is also stamped Gilbert & Sons, London. Length of main telescope barrel 117.5 cm, case length 122.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The telescope is actually engraved E & W not EAW as in the description. The body of the telescope is also stamped Gilbert & Sons, London. On the lens at the end of the telescope there is an interior blister/chip to the glass (located at 4 o'clock if on a clock face). However, this must be on the side of the glass on the inside as it does not feel rough on the exterior. The main body has small knocks and dents but nothing too detrimental. The metalwork has been lacquered at some point which is now rubbed.
