PORTAL CHARLES: (1893-1971) British Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Commander-in-Chief of Bomber Command 1940. Portal served as a Flight Commander during World War I. D.S., C F A Portal, in his capacity as Major, R.F.C., Commanding 16 Squadron, one page, 4to, n.p. (France), 18th February 1918. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Combat Report (headed Combats in the Air) relating to an aerial operation by Lieutenant R. L. Clapp (pilot) and Lieutenant W. J. Blitch (observer), the narrative stating, in full, 'While patrolling over Lens at 8.30 a.m. encountered one E[nemy] A[ircraft] two-seater at about 7,000 feet and fired one drum at it from Lewis Gun. E.A. immediately returned to his own lines firing a few rounds from rear gun as it went'. Signed by Portal at the foot. A few small tears and slight creasing at the head of the page, only very slightly affecting the printed heading, but not the text or signature, about VG

(2) CONDITION REPORT: R50 - no scratches to the lens with matched Pierre Cardin case Tortuga - left lens has a small light scratches, each between 0.3 - 0.5cm in size, approx 4-5 scratches, only noticeable on close inspection.

Tortuga - right lens has two scratches, each approx 1cm in size Left lens has one small scratch, approx 0.5cm in length Black Outdoorsman - both lens show scratching black metal frame shows scratches significiant losses to the paintwork

(2) CONDITION REPORT: Please note the Ray Bans have all come from the same vendor and have been in storage for a number of years. Although they are old retail stock, we can not 100% guarantee tat the stock do not have any significant damage. However lot 16 have no scratches to the lens or breaks or cracks to the frames The cases are in good condition however may show minor wear to edges indicative of age.
