Southern Railway 3 aspect hand lamp. Discovered in Frome and is in `as found` condition It appears part Midland and part Southern. It is of a design not seen before, possibly totally wind-proofed with an unusual flip top having draught filters and a system that allows the front door to be removed completely by taking out a pin and not permitting any wind to affect the flame. The lamp could then be attached to something else. Many of the component are LSWR and judging by the stamping looks to have been produced around the time of grouping. Bearing in mind the location found and the typical SDJR eye-shaped brass plate, it was probably used on that line. Stamped in bold lettering ` SR` on body and the brass eye on red cone "E. GALLE." Lamp complete with Red and Green glasses with the clear aperture tightly placed with strip glass (Typical Midland style) L&SWR stamped, sloping front reservoir with BR brass burner for use with a low and large front lens.
SWRy District Inspectors 3 aspect Hand lamp. A typical tall DI hand lamp with `Spry` stamped on the body. It has a brass plate on the reducing cone "R.S.W BARLOW WATERLOO". There are signs of a further three other plates that have been removed. Copper lens cone and a drop-in, double skinned reservoir having reflector and unmarked brass burner. An uncommon lamp indeed, stripped to bare metal ready for painting.
