A LATE 18TH CENTURY CULPEPER-TYPE COMPOUND MONOCULAR MICROSCOPE, unsigned, the ebony and ray skin covered outer body tube united to the shaped brass stage and ebonised mahogany octagonal base with accessory drawer, by three turned brass pillar supports with diamond shaped feet, the sliding ebony mounted body tube with gilt decorated green vellum covering, the finely turned upper body tube with lens, the eye-piece(possibly not original) with sliding brass dust cap, the accessory drawer containing six objectives, five pop marked ???????, a container with mica discs, a pair of spring forceps and other items, the underside pasted with an amonial label for (?) Michael Macnemara MD, the underside of the stage with two spring clips for a glass phial, the concave mirror with unusual ball and socket mount, all brass fittings showing signs of original lacquer, the drawer with brass pull, the microscope contained in the original pyramid shaped oak case with decorative escutheon, 17in (43.2cm) high, (lock and carrying handle lacking)

Previously belonging to Brigadier General J.G. Geddes of the IV Corps Artillery, and saw use throughout his service on the front. No. 11462 with WD stamp
