An Unusual Petrological Microscope By R & J Beck, English, c. 1897*, signed to the rear of the foot ‘R & J Beck London 21067’, the microscope stands on a heavy lead filled ‘Y’ shaped base with a large pillar at the rear supporting the microscope on a compass type joint, with a plano-concave mirror to the base on an articulated arm, graduated polariser on a focusing mount, rotating goniometer stage with clips, with Dr Dollars Integrating Micrometer stage fitted, fine focus via screw, course focus via rack work acting to the back of the body tube, body tube incorporating a centring nosepiece, slide in/out filter holder, a slide in/out analyser, Bertrand Lens in focusing tube, analyser eyepiece, with other accessories, with some other accessories. Height 45cm. *From the Beck records this microscope was sold in 1897, it did not go to the Cornhill shop so would probably have been a special commission or order.
