The document is evidently neatly clipped from a Combat Report, the typed text stating, in part, 'Whilst leading Flight observed a 2-seater E[nemy] A[ircraft] crossing our Lines near Lens about 600 ft above us…..Gradually overtook him and at range of about 150 yards started firing. The EA started to go down in a long dive. Got to within about 100 yards of him and got in a very long burst. The EA immediately went into a vertical nose dive. It was confirmed that this machine crashed into a house about one mile NE of Lens'. The text relates to Whealy's 18 victory whilst piloting a B7220 on 3rd May 1918. VG

*Zeiss-Ikon camera. The 'Electronic' model was a cutting edge design and their last model before manufacture ceased in 1975. Introduced in 1968 and based on the chassis and layout of the 'Super', it featured the world's first electronically governed shutter. Only 3100 were produced. Generally, cutting-edge designs have flaws in their initial designs and the Electronic was no exception. The flaw was that the power for the light meter and shutter were both drawn from the same battery. This was rectified in a running design change with no fanfare by introducing a second battery compartment. This improved version with two power sources ran from serial number R55001 through R57000. The serial number of this camera is R55502, which identifies it as an improved version from the original model. (6)
