The circular white marble base engraved with an Arabic numeral chapter ring annotated for latitude 48.46`15``, applied with a patinated brass gnomen and armature incorporating pivoted magnification lens to focus sunlight onto the breech of a small cannon pivoted within cast supports at the leading edge of the base, diameter 22.5cm.
