A flintlock pistol with two locks and side mounted candle lamp. One of the great 'arquebusier' of the Napoleonic period. This is a rare curiosity. Upon firing the right hand lock a candle in the attached lamp is lighted, Firing the left hand lock fires the pistol. It has two triggers. The lamp is mounted so that it can rotate, and pistol and lamp are provided with legs so that the lamp can stand. The lamp may be turned parallel tot the shooting direction to illuminate the target. A concept far ahead of its time. The locks have flat lock plates with border engraving. The left hand lock is signed Regnier in VT. The round barrel used to be blued. It still has gilded scroll on the breech end. It has a gilded hollow rib that is continued in the pistol grip. The stock is of walnut and has very fine typically French styling and checkering. The lamp is made of brass with a glass lens. It has a tube to fit the small diameter candle and a curved strap to help the flame be transferred from the lock to the candle. The glass may be shuttered with a brass cover. Caliber 14 mm. Maker Regnier in VT (An VI?). Regnier is an extended gunmakers family in France. This curiosity/pistol is most probably by Edmé (L'Ainé) Regnier (born 1751 Semur-en-Auxois (Cote-d'or) deceased 1825 Paris). French, ca. 1790-1810.L. 31 cm. - barrel L. 15 cm.Condition report available onrequest.
