Annette van Waaijen The Pool (Rio) I, 2023 Giclee print on Hahnemühle Photorag with stitching Signed on Verso 8.7 x 14.6cm (3¼ x 5½ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Annette has an eye to uncover the beauty of the ordinary and of the unappreciated. She captures it with her lens, prints the photograph on canvas, and embroiders the work to highlight its beauty. This approach not only adds physical structure and depth to the otherwise flat surface but also creates a layered effect that is both figurative and tangible. The embroidery serves to enhance, blend, and imbue new significance to the artwork. In fact, the embroidery work is executed with such finesse that it can be challenging to discern where thread has been used and where it has not, giving the impression of painting with needle and thread. Following her graduation from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, Annette embarked on her journey as an independent artist at the age of 40. During her travels to places like Italy and Brazil, she captures photographs, often unposed, to serve as the foundation for her artwork. After printing these photos on canvas, she incorporates embroidery and textiles, sometimes to accentuate specific details, sometimes to add something that were not already there. The use of textiles, embroidery, and handicrafts has long been a tradition among the women in her family, albeit in a different manner. Annette's work is frequently showcased in exhibitions and art fairs, including the Affordable Art Fair in Amsterdam and Brussels, as well as the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen. Notably, one of her pieces, titled "THE POOL," was featured in the Summer Exhibition 2023 at the Royal Academy of Art last summer. Lot 23

Jack Jubb Fish, 2023 Airbrush, acrylic on postcard Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Ell Pennick About Jack Jubb is an Artist whose practice is grounded in a critical engagement with the politics of the image, having access to one of the earliest iterations of Photoshop's suite of airbrushing and liquify tools as a child through his father's job as a graphic designer, Jack developed an acute interest in the power of editing tools to transform and recontextualise media. Jack's airbrush paintings derive from the historical context of the airbrush as one of the earliest tools used for the editing of photographs. Even as the practice has been long been superseded by advancements in digital photo editing, the "airbrushed" photograph remains in the popular vernacular, denoting a dawning paranoia associated with the truth or falsehood of the images that one is confronted with in every sphere of life, employing an airbrush as a lens-based tool of image reproduction and doctoring. Jack's painting practice is an editorial process in which elements of source material, gathered from personal photographs and vast tracts of online data, may be destroyed, or embellished to craft affecting narratives concerning memory, alienation, and countercultural anxieties. Lot 319

Isabella Lolita Amram Anti-Matter Field Oil and oil pastel on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Isabella Lolita Amram is a Turkish and Venezuelan artist living in London. Isabella ritualistically combines astrological chart analysis and tarot card divination in relation to the places, people, and events that inspire her, with paint. Her paintings can best be described as cosmological landscapes and portraits that capture the world through a lens of occult knowledge. Further to that, she not only conceptually and experientially investigates, but also "processually" embodies and performs her research on tarot- and astrology-centric symbolic and archetypal storytelling through a gestural, circular, and textured manner of layering paint, using the materials as an extension her body. On the one hand Isabella's practice is built on a foundation of conceptual research on esoteric meaning-creating symbols based on astrology and tarot. On the other, it emphasises approaching the occult by dropping out of analysis and storytelling into "mystery," which she does through practices like automatic drawing and using her body as a vessel rather than a tool of conscious material manipulation. The intention behind this seemingly dualistic foundation is to bridge the gap between body and cosmos, material and meaning, the unknown and knowledge, something and no-thing, and the observed and imagined, through the use of the physical and tactile properties of paint, surface and colour. As such, Isabella touches upon moments of individuation and transformation - both personally and collectively. Furthermore, through her work, Isabella aims to open the door to conversations about the relationship between space and time, the unknown that exists beyond storytelling, contemporary attitudes on mysticism, as well as age-old discussions on consciousness, free will, and the cyclically patterned nature of history. The crux of Isabella's oeuvre is the fleeting and transformative process that goes on in her studio, while the works displayed are heirlooms from these voyages throughout space and time. Education BA from Brown University Foundation Degree in Fine Art from UAL Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from UAL (ongoing) Select Exhibitions/Awards 'There, Yet' group exhibition at The Department Store Brixton, London, UK Pop-up group exhibition at Standpoint Gallery, London, UK 'Intuition Goes Before You' group show, 13 Soho Square, London, UK 'ONE Akaretler' group show by Bilgili Holding and shopigo art platform, Istanbul, Turkey Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Isabella Lolita Amram's practice is built on a foundation of radical processual embodiment - a durational way of painting as felt and experienced by the body, on the one hand, and research on ancient and esoteric meaning-creating symbols based on astrology and tarot, on the other. The intention behind this foundation is to bridge the gap between body and cosmos, material and meaning, mystery and knowledge, something and no-thing, and the observed and imagined, through the use of the physical and tactile properties of paint, surface and colour. As such, Isabella touches upon moments of individuation and transformation - both personally and collectively. Isabella not only conceptually investigates, but also "processually" embodies and performs her research on tarot and astrology-centric symbolic and archetypal storytelling through a gestural, circular, and textured manner of weaving materials. Ritualistically combining astrological charts and tarot divination with paint, her works can best be described as cosmological landscapes and portraits of events and people informed by divination. Analysing moments of significance through the lens of such occult tools and transcribing them onto surfaces opens the door to conversations about the relationship between space and time, the unknown that exists beyond storytelling, contemporary attitudes on the esoteric, as well as age-old discussions on consciousness, free will, and the cyclically patterned nature of history.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Lot 347

Kate Walters Ms. (1) Watercolour sticks, oil pastels and ink on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Kate lives and works in west Cornwall. She works every day in her studio, after walking beside the sea. Viewing Kate's totemic figures, so delicately rendered in Rorschach-esque watercolour, for the first time, is as though peering into the very cycles of life and death. These paintings show both an abstract interest and material contact between the primordial and the universal -- a suggested communion with that same spirit who first cast images on those low-lit caves in Lascaux. Indeed, like them, it is not so much figure Kate's works seek to represent: her preoccupation is rather with movement, with spirit and sensation, with being itself. Education Foundation Byam Shaw; Fine Art Brighton University; post graduate studies at Falmouth University. Also studied classical shamanism with Chris Luttichau at Northern Drum. Select Exhibitions/Awards RA summer show 2005; ACE awards 2004, 2007 and 2020; a-n awards to visit and write about Venice Biennale, and tour the Outer Hebrides researching and working; awards from Cultivator Cornwall and Creative Skills to research Shetland and Venice. Solo show Newlyn Art Gallery 2012, with support from Newlyn Art Gallery and the Juliet Gomperts Trust. Short-listed for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in 2023 and Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2003 and 2008. Solo exhibition Tremenheere Gallery 2019. Solo exhibitions with Arusha Gallery in 2014, 2019, 2022 and forthcoming May 2024 (London). Gallery Representation Arusha Gallery, Edinburgh, New York and London. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork I made these drawings as part of a long sequence of drawings I'm making in found and vintage books. Ken Nwadiogbu In the Wave Charcoal and acrylic on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Ken Nwadiogbu (b. 1994, Lagos, Nigeria) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, based in Lagos, Nigeria. A trained civil engineer, he soon pivoted to fine art, first embracing hyperrealism and charcoal drawing before expanding his creative horizon to more conceptual works and a wider array of techniques, including acrylic painting, sculpture and installation. His works are inspired by iconic American contemporary art figures such as J.-M. Basquiat, Kehinde Wiley, Toyin Ojih Odutola and Kerry James Marshall. On Ken's large canvases, stories superimpose themselves in multiple layers. Mixing together hyperrealism with contemporary elements, he creates ingenious, politically charged visual illusions that deploy a singular outlook, daring the audience to question their own, for "value lies in the perspective". Defending an art that can be at once smart and fun, he explores grave matters in intense colours and playful cut-outs, addressing altogether black representation and identity, displacement, and socio-political control. Popularly known as KenArt, Ken is credited for introducing the "Contemporealism" movement and was named by Guardian Life as one of the most "Outstanding Personalities" in Nigeria. In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious The Future Awards Africa in recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian arts community. A core focus for him is to inspire and encourage young creatives. He does this through public speaking and mentorship, as well as through his creative companies. He nurtures an art collective called 'Title Deed' and co-found Artists Connect NG, the largest artist gathering in Nigeria, created to foster creativity, collaboration and community. His works have been exhibited in a number of galleries including Omenka Gallery ('Insanity' group show, Lagos, 2016), Retro Africa ('In the making', Abuja, 2018), Bricklane Gallery ('Contemporealism', London, 2019), Bomb Factory Art Foundation ('Journey Mercies', London, 2021) and Thinkspace ('Ubuntu', LA, 2021). His works were showcased at ART X Lagos on several occasions, at 154 London, and Prizm Art Fair, in Miami. He has worked on multiple projects with respected international brands like Martell Cognac, McMillan Publishers, Flight Logistics, and many others. Ken enjoys expanding his perspective -and ours, rarely ever leaving anything to chance, but rather proceeding from a place of joy, and intentional care. He is constantly revitalizing his practice by challenging modes of Black representation. His oeuvres do not just encompass various forms of painting but most recently transcends into photography, sculpture, installation, NFT and video Education MA Painting, Royal College of Art Select Exhibitions/Awards Awards: 2019: The Future Awards Africa Prize for Art Exhibitions: 2022, SCOPE Art Fair Miami, 2020, Prizm International Art Fair Miami, 2020, 1-54 African Art Fair New York, Portrait of a Top boy and Summer exhibition Royal Academy Gallery Representation Retro Africa Gallery and Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery. This lot has been curated by Millie Foster About Phoebe Evans (b.2000) is a London based artist, her practise utilises magic realism to draw on the process of the sublime and the liminal of everyday. Harmonizing colour and exploring perspective, the environments become a fantasy of reality. Saturated monochromes are used to reimagine vivid dreamscapes. These invite an audience to view the fragments of space and time through a tinted lens. Phoebe's practise is a vessel for translating the subconscious space, taking an uncertain and intangible place into an array of surrealist rooms. Portals are created through doors and windows. They are familiar yet distant, allowing you to place and lose yourself within the work. Tone and light enrich the atmosphere.
