A VICTORIAN ORDINARY BICYCLE the 142cm diam wheel with solid rubber tyre and brass hubs, the black japanned frame with rod handle bar having turned beech handles and (damaged) lever-brake, leather saddle on leaf spring, the tapered frame with mounting stirrups and forks to the 43cm diam second wheel, one hub stamped 56/1140/75 Provenance: The present machine was one of many bygones which constituted a curious `museum` of all manner of early and modern objects including a jockey`s scales owned by Fred Archer, collected around 1900 to provide an appropriate talking point in the rock-cut cellars of the antiquated Trip to Jerusalem Inn, Nottingham; removed from which and sold at auction in Nottingham c1988, whence bought by the present vendor. ++An unusual example as it is entirely unrestored with decayed leather saddle, extensive paint loss etc
