A Very Unusual Protractor by Beilby of Bristol, in brass, c.1815, signed 'Beilby Bristol' for Richard or Charles Beilby, 180 degree protractor divided to half a degree, with inset steel plug with centring hole, two upright bars, each inclined one degree from the vertical, and divided to one arc-minute, theoretically enabling construction or reading of angles to that level of accuracy. Below the protractor baseline are four further scales 1-4 and 1-5, each divided in 10, the purpose of these not immediately apparent, instrument 17cm across.Note: This protractor is a similar design to one of the same period, by Richard Spear of Dublin, Flints lot 133, 12th May 2022Condition Report: Good overall condition with all engraving clear, some small edge knocks at the top of protractor, please see online images.

An Indian jade hilted dagger (kard), single edged blade 10 in. and of slightly flamboyant form, the forte partly enclosed by scroll edged plates adorned with foliage in gold koftgari, the hilt with grey-green jade grip scales set with decorative simulated rivet heads (one lacking), fabric covered scabbard with embossed locket and chape depicting elephants and a lion killing an antelope.
