Florentine School, (first half of the 17th Century) The Archangel Michael holding scales and a sword oil on canvas, unlined and on its original stretcher, and in a 17th century frame 87 x 67cm (34 x 26in) Provenance: By descent within a family of Russo- Dutch descent, Norfolk. Other Notes: An attribution to Francesco Furini or possiby Cesare Dandini might be considered. A little dirty and with craquelure overall. Quite a rough canvas. In a gilded and painted frame. Frame has quite a few chips and damages. unlined and on its original stretcher in a period frame. Oil on a coarse weave canvas which is unlined. Small tears and areas of weakness in the canvas. Paint layer is severally cupped with raised areas of craquelure and several areas of paint loss. Varnish is clear but uneven and patchy. Several losses to the decorative surface of the frame. Surface of the frame is very dusty. Unlined and on its original stretcher and in a 17th century frame, probably restained and regilded.
