A lovely pair of finely cast, high quality gold (94% gold, equivalent to 22K+) beads in the form of fish, skillfully modeled on both sides, replete with wonderful details - fins, scales, and facial features (note the beady eyes and open mouths)! Various locations in the Nile Valley and the Delta were associated with specific gods and their relevant animal cults, and these fish may represent Nile perch, sacred to the goddess Neith - an early goddess worshipped as the first creator of the universe. According to legend, she declared, "I am the things that are, that will be, and that have been . . ." Size: .875" L (2.2 cm); weight: 2.4 grams; gold quality: 94%, equivalent to 22K+ Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000 Condition: Only slight wear, otherwise excellent.
