A COMPOSITE HARQUEBUSIER'S ARMOUR, PROBABLY DUTCH, MID-17TH CENTURY comprising pot with hemispherical skull formed in two pieces joined along the crest of a low medial comb, projecting forward to a flat obtusely-pointed integral peak bearing the crowned 'IR' government ownership mark of the reign of James II (1685-8) and pierced at its rear with a rectangular hole to accommodate a sliding nasal-bar (restored) with a leaf-shaped upper terminal, retained by a staple and locking-screw (restored), and fitted at its rear and sides respectively with a narrow obtusely-pointed one-piece neck-guard embossed to simulate five lames, and pendent scutiform cheek-pieces each pierced at their centres with five auditory-holes in dice-formation; one-piece breastplate of vestigial 'peascod' form with raised neck-opening and outward-flanged lower edge, struck at the right of the belly with the proof-mark of a bullet and fitted at each side of the chest with a pierced stud and swivel-hook to secure the shoulder-straps issuing from the backplate; one-piece backplate with raised neck-opening bearing an indistinct mark, probably the crowned 'IR' government ownership mark of the reign of James II, and outward-flanged lower edge, fitted to either side of the neck-opening and to either side of the waist respectively with forward-projecting shoulder-scales and a waist-belt (restored); the main edges of all elements formed with plain inward-turned edges accompanied either by recessed borders or, in the case of the breastplate, by pairs of incised lines (the skull patched at the left of the brow, the breastplate bruised at the centre of its lower edge, the neck-opening cracked and pierced with four small holes at the centre of its upper edge, and all elements more or less heavily pitted); the cuirass worn over a buff coat (restored) with long sleeves and long skirt, fastened down the front by laces, and the whole mounted on a sturdy wooden stand

He became principle workman to Jesse Ramsden and succeeded him in 1800. See Taylor 1989, no. 571.

THREE CAUCASIAN DAGGERS (KINDJAL), LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY the first with broad blade formed with a pair of slender central fullers, stamped with a mark on the outer face, the hilt fitted with a pair of shaped horn grip-scales retained by three pairs of rivets with large iron bosses on the outer face, in its fabric-covered wooden scabbard (incomplete); the second with blued fullered blade decorated with gold scrolls and foliage over the centre and on each face of the forte, iron hilt decorated with gold en suite; the third small, with fullered blade, nielloed silver hilt, in its silver-covered scabbard decorated en suite, the locket stamped with a mark the first: 37.5 cm; 14 3/4 in blade (3)
