A Mills Novelty Company, Chicago, enamelled set of scales, in cream and green with a cast mount, the top inset with a mirror, dial and dime slot, 118cm high CONDITION REPORT: Age - approximately 1930's, movement working when penny is dropped in. Bolt dropped in back. No key, has been oiled recently. Rusting to some areas, back plate has repair. Please view additional images (upon request).
A mid 19c rosewood cistern barometer by G F Eve, 18A Featherstone Street, City Road, London having two verniers and duplicate weather indications for 10am yesterday and 10am today. The register plates and vernier scales are ivory as is the mercury thermometer scale which is graduated with both Fahrenheit and Reaumer scales. The top of the barometer has a double scroll carving surmounted by a shell and the cistern cover is flat. The barometer is 41"" tall overall.
An early 20c Board of Trade Standard or Kew marine barometer with single vernier and scales in both inches and millimetres. It is constructed of brass and could be suspended from the upper brass ring or from the gimbal ring on the brass body. It has the improvements recommended by the Brussels Conference to prevent mercury pumping in bad weather, it is 38.5"" tall overall.
A mid 19c walnut Sea Coast cistern barometer with two porcelain scales and two verniers, one for 10am yesterday and one for 10am today. The weather indications on the register plates are known as Admiral Fitzroy`s scale words. The mercury thermometer has both Fahrenheit and centigrade scales and is of porcelain. Both it and the barometer scales are protected by glass and there are carvings on the cistern cover above the thermometer and at the top of the barometer, it stands 40"" tall overall.
An 18th Century English pewter broad-rimmed charger with false hallmarks and London touch marks to the underside of the rim inscribed "John Fre..." together with a pair of brass and painted iron based shop scales by H. Crowther of Birmingham, together with iron and brass weights CONDITION REPORTS Scratches throughout and some deep scratches, shows signs of wear and rubbing conductive to age, is slightly bent all marks rubbed from use and some pitting in areas size 46.5 cm approx, scales in used condition with rubbing to paint work throughout and brass dish dent and chipped to one side
