An early 19th century mahogany cased set of diamond scales and weights, the hinged lid bearing original paper label inscribed "De Grave & Son, Scale Makers, Corner St Ann's Lane, Alder t, London", with fitted lower section with balance beam, two dish pans and hinged compartment containing various weights and with original combination scoop and tweezers fitted to the side, length 13.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is a tiny section of the back left corner of the lid which is broken off, approximately 1cm x 1mm, surface wear as you would expect, the interior has a few replacement weights but overall fairly complete.
7th (or Royal Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot Officer’s 1830 Infantry pattern shoulder scales. A fine scarce undress pair, each comprising a dark blue melton scale edged with gold lace bearing a large gilt crescent and retaining gilt regimental button. Reverse of each with four small loops and retaining laces. Gilt bright. VGC
Victorian 1845 Pattern Sword, believed to be Warwickshire Militia. An unusual example, possibly carried by a Senior NCO. Broadly based on the British 1845 Infantry officer’s pattern, with plain slightly curved fullered blade, of German manufacture, bearing stamped scales trademark at the forte. The hilt with “Gothic” style guard, with decorative brass scrolling in place of the normal VR cypher cartouche. Wire-bound shagreen grip. Housed in its metal scabbard. Traces of rust to blade. Mr Harvey Withers in his book “British Military Swords” shows (page 131) a similar hilted Officer’s Sword, attributed to a Warwickshire Militia Volunteer unit.
