:AN INDO-PERSIAN PESH-KABZ, early 19th century, with 9in. watered single-edged sharply-tapering blade with reinforced tip, the iron hilt with beaked hardstone grip-scales, copper grip-retaining pins each with silver flower-head washer, in original cloth-covered scabbard (some wear to cloth) with silver-gilt mounts.
:A FINE PERSIAN YATAGHAN, late 18th / early 19th century, with 21 3/4in. single-edged blade profusely decorated on each side and along the back-edge with gold-damascened foliage and, on the left side, three panels containing inscriptions, the iron hilt decorated en suite (some minor wear to damascening on the grip-strap), characteristic walrus ivory grip-scales with worn Fenton & Sons label, in leather-covered scabbard (some wear to tip), probably original, with gilt locket decorated in relief with flowers and foliage (gilding worn).
:AN OTTOMAN KILIJ, the blade 18th century, with 28 1/2in. curved single-edged fullered blade double-edged towards the shaped point, each fuller with gold-damascened Arabic inscription, the right side with additional smaller cartouche containing a further Arabic inscription (slightly worn), brass hilt of characteristic form, horn grip-scales, and later velvet-covered scabbard. Other Notes: A handwritten label from the collector states that he was able to get a partial translation of the inscriptions on the blade. The long inscription reads 'Draw the sword of valour from the scabbard of destruction, and cut off with it, the heads of the envious and the hostile'. The smaller cartouche dates the blade to year 905 of the Heirega (1577 AD). The sword was shown to The British Museum in October 1922.
:A SILVER-MOUNTED OTTOMAN KILIJ, the blade made in Constantinople, circa 1650, with 28 1/2in. watered fullered curved single-edged blade double-edged towards the shaped point, the right side of the blade with chiselled maker's mark in the form of a bear, each forte and fuller with gold-damascened inscriptions, with later silver-mounted hilt and scabbard, each struck with Ottoman hallmarks and decorated with borders of chased foliage, and large characteristic swelling horn sgrip-scales.
