Lot 186

WW2 Japanese pilots slide rule flight navigation aircraft computer. Front face of the gadget allows input of the aircraft heading, airspeed, plus the windspeed and the wind direction. On the back are three scales, outer scale is simply a round slide rule for multiplying or dividing numbers. The red scale is for altitude correction. The lower right scale is for airspeed correction. Scarce hand held calculator measures 31cm x 16.5cm.

WW2 Luftwaffe pilot’s survival machete by Alcosa of Solingen. Features wooden grips with 2 steel screw pins, cleaned brass hammer flat face pommel and guard. 40.7cm large bright bowie blade, carries the Alex Coppel Alexanderwerks AWS scales logo & ALCOSO over Solingen trademark. Front edge has been field sharpened. Comes with well blued steel scabbard with traces of yellow letters and 1942 date, missing one throat screw. These 53cm long machetes were part of the aircrew survival packs in aircraft such as the Heinkell-111 and as such are extremely rare & highly collectable.

dating: 19th Century provenance: Tibet, The thick, symbolic blade in rock crystal, strongly convex and with a curl on one side, held by a mount, carved with filigree with spirals that comes out of the jaws of Makara, this made in silver with scales, ears in gilded metal. A double vajra in the center, rare on kartika, in rock crystal as well, embossed. The upper element carved en suite with frames and filigree spirals and loaded with a typical triple face, partially painted heads. Peak button shaped as vajra. All the item is sprinkled with numerous semi-precious cabochon stones of various colors. height 50 cm.

dating: 19th Century provenance: Tibet, The cusp of triangular section, made of rock crystal and enriched with silver foils. Neck carved with filigree spirals and held by a Makara head, made of silver foils with scales, the external elements, such as ears in gilded metal. Followed by double vajra, embossed in rock crystal as well. Big, silver pommel, carved en suite with the other mounts and loaded with a typical triple head. Crowned faces partially painted in polychrome. The peak button shaped as vajra in rock crystal. All the elements crossed with rows and frames of semi-precious cabochon stones of various colors. height 54 cm.

dating: 18th/19th Century provenance: Turkey, Khula khud with iron, hemispherical skull, with remains of gold inlays, provided with two plume-holders, sliding nose-piece and mail neck-defense with simple rings, border with fringes. Armour with iron, riveted rings. Breast-plate with four, iron plates, provided with buckles. Back-plate with iron scales. Together with a vest, tunic-type in light-blue fabric (more recent), embroidered in polychrome, with gold-inlaid cartouches at the forte, one of white carved with a six-tip star and one with inscriptions in Arabic. Brass quillon, horn grip scales. Mannequin not included. height as shown circa 180 cm.

Brass hilt with cross-quillon and wooden grip scales (restores). Wooden scabbard covered with leather (restored), with long, brass mounts. One of the two suspension rings is missing. length 83.5 cm.

dating: late 18th Century provenance: Turkey, Curved, single-and false-edged blade at the foible, back with central raiser and fuller for three quarters, on both facets. Fine Koran inscriptions inside the fuller, inlaid in gold. Some areas with pitting, traces of damask. Silver hilt with long quillons, ribbed and ending in cusps, with engraved geometrical frames, langets, Tughra and stamp. Thick, horn grip scales with silver central band, stamped and marked with Tughra. Complete with wooden scabbard, covered with black leather, stitched on the back with a large band in silver thread. Chape, cap and two bands with frames en suite with the sword's quillon and small engravings. Cap complete with a rare rear openable band. Two bands with a lug, stamped. Tughra and stamps, on chape and bands as well. length 91,7 cm.

dating: late 18th Century provenance: Turkey, Elegant blade in fine wootz damask, curved and enlarged toward the tip. With a rinceaux weave at the forte, in relief and on a grained and gold-inlaid ground, a circular cartouche in the center of decoration on both facets, containing gold-inlaid floral drawings on the left side and golden incription 'In Allah's name and Victory is arriving' on the right. A fuller starts from a central segment, that runs until the tip. False edge reinforced with a raiser at the foible and with a small, gold-inlaid element. Back of the blade inlaid in gold at the forte, then ribbed in the center. Iron hilt with quillon with straight quillons with lenticular ends and thin langets, adorned with outlines and gold-inlaid flowers. Grip with silver central band. Grip scales in brown horn, held by the two iron studs, gold-inlaid as well, so as the mount the hems the pommel's hole. length 91 cm.

Silver ring-nut decorated with rinceaux in relief on a grained ground and with nielloed outlines, with silver, cusped stud, carved en suite, smooth back part with silver rivet. A silver plaque at the pommel on the front side, decorated as the ring-nut, and provided with a cusped stud as well. Iron scabbard, covered with black leather, with red band on the back. Silver chape and cap, with rinceaux drawings in relief on the front side and with remains of nielloeing. Loop carved en suite. Chape with spherical end. length 60,3 cm.
