(36 x 13.5cm.), a second Army & Navy set with boxwood rules and Marquois scales, 14 x 5in. (35.5 x 12.5cm.), a set with the ivory handles stamped `Harling`, 10.75 x 7in. (27.5 x 18cm.) and an Elliott Bros. of London set with ebony rolling parallel rule, 13.5 x 5in. (34.5 x 12.5cm.). (4)

A brass fireman`s helmet, leather backed brass chin-scales with rose bosses, peak and neck guard with turned rims, raised comb embossed witha dragon to either side and decorated with celtic motifs, the helmet plate formed from crossed axes and a flaming torch intertwinned with a hose, leather liner, the neck guard stamped 14.
A very rare 18c boxwood scale rule by JOHN LORENZ Leeds, 18" x 3" wide with brass tips, the rule is calibrated on both sides with 22 scales, numbered 3 to 24 in the L/H column to denote graduations to the inch. The late Richard Knight explained that to use a scale the first two graduations must be ignored, the reason for this is obscure. Lorenz was known to have produced brass sextants and the curator of the Leeds Museum suggests he worked before 1790, the rule is in exceptional condition F
A German brass torpedo aiming instrument, the rotating dial and arms with various markings and scales, also engraved ‘UB 80’ with torpedo motif, 38cm overall This may refer to U-boat 80, a type UE 1 submarine, which saw active service in WWI, and was broken up at Swansea in 1922 (source: uboat.net)
