Royal Engineers - A silver table cigar lighter, maker BM, London 1883, modelled as a snake, the silver head realistically engraved with scales, the body fashioned from a twisted sheep`s horn, the head lacking the jewelled eyes and the forked tongue flame, horn mounted with a plaque inscribed` Presented to The R.E. Mess on their leaving Chatham`, 51cm
1st Life Guards early 19th Century Shoulder Scales. An exceedingly rare pair circa 1830. Gilt brass, the strap of simulated scales, each decorated with an oak leaf device. The crescent is embossed with a rose. Within the crescent the title LG surmounted by a Crown and 1. The crescent supports simulated twist tassels. Complete with a regimental pattern button. The underside with loop attachment for the uniform. Some age wear, one button polished GC.
Household Cavalry Other Rank’s cuirass. A good clean example. Both front and back plate are nickel plated, each plate is edged with a brass band and ornamented with brass studs. Lining to the front and back plate of leather. Complete with matched pair of brass shoulder scales and white buff leather waist strap. GC Minor service wear.
Northumberland and Newcastle Volunteer Cavalry Officer’s epaulette. A scarce early epaulette of regimental pattern. Sheffield silver, the strap is made with scales. The crescent supports fine twist wire tassels. Complete with regimental button of entwined initials NNVC, surmounted by a Crown. The reverse is lined with dark blue cloth and retains silk cushion. The scale with age wear, one scale absent, some stitching faults. Northumberland and Newcastle Volunteer Cavalry was raised in 1817. In 1840 the regimental title was changed to Yeomanry Cavalry.
Infantry Officer’s bell top shako circa 1829-35. A good and rare example. Black beaver body with patent leather crown and peak, two patent leather bands either side in the form of a V. Fitted with replacement circular gilt ear bosses mounted with the Royal Crest support a set of replacement leather backed chin scales. To the crown original wool ball tuft of white over scarlet. Original soft leather sweatband to the interior and with crimson silk panel to the crown. Some age and storage wear, loss of pile to beaver, split to front with repair (would be hidden by plate), also splits to rear panel. The shako retains a good shape and is in firm condition, and would make a suitable exhibition item.
WW1 Bavarian Infantry Officer’s Pickelhaube. A fine example with squared front peak and gilt metal fittings. Gilt metal state plate to the front. Cruciform spike base with gilt stars and fluted spike. The base of the spike has a pearl ring. State and national cockade support the chin scales (leather backing restored). Brown leather sweatband with original cotton lining. Minor wear, GC.
German. Third Reich Kriegsmarine Officer’s dagger by Alcoso, Solingen. A good example, the plain blade bearing maker’s scales logo. Gilded brass mounts with twist wire bound simulated ivory grip; eagle and swastika pommel. Housed in its gilded brass scabbard with lightening bolt designs and retaining both suspension rings. Hairline to grip, gilding worn to brass. GC Introduced in 1938.
