A pair of Chelsea Derby canted rectangular deep dishes, each painted in coloured enamels with flowers and leaves, within a canted blue ground cartouche, decorated in gilt with flowers and scales, within a broad garland of flowers and leaves, and blue and gilt rim, 22.2 cm wide (8 3/4"), circa 1770-75.
Hendrik Prins, Amsterdam, an early 18th century walnut stick barometer, the moulded cornice above a pair of shaped brass plates engraved with scales marked 'Engelsc' and 'Rhynl. Duymen' to top, the right plate with vernier, and 'Hk. Prins fecit Amsteliam' below, the replaced visible tube flanked by trailing marquetry flowers, with bowfront cistern cover below, 97cm. Hk is most likely to be Hendrik. The Engelsche and Rynl. Daymen/Duymen refers to the measurement which is registered in English as well as Rhineland standards, and is the old spelling of Duimen which is Thumbs (as in measuring in Hands, Feet and Thumbs).
